Rockline 1994
« on: January 06, 2009, 03:07:25 PM »
I dont understand.....

if you listen to that interview in 1994 with Axl & Slash, they seem SOOOOO cool with each other. Axl seems so happy. WTF happened???

Now....Axl DID say "Slash just gave him new tapes that day" and he couldnt wait to go listen to them, and Slash responded by saying "that's too much pressure" then laughed...

Im wondering.....did Axl take those tapes home, listen, and did it hit him: "Oh my God....I have no interest in doing these songs, and moreover, I dont even want to do this style anymore, or atleast I want to explore"

B/c the 1994 rockline interview was so peaceful and cool, I cant imagine what messed it all up SOOOO badly after that???

BTW, the last words spoken when Slash and Axl were together: "Yo Beta"...listen to the end of the interview!!!!

Is this for real?

I thought Axl never gave any interviews whatsoever after 1993

Really cool, never heard this before.
Thanx w 23 axl, for mentioning.

For your original question - I don't really have an answer.
I am an old fan and I would be more than happy if the split-up never happand.

But lately, I think I should close that part of the history of GNR and move on with the new one.
Because there is so much new to discover and this makes me curious and excited again.

You know, we could discuss these why's and what if's till we are old and gray and I think it won't change a thing.
It is as it is.
Now I'm trying to enjoy what I have.
I will always cherish the old band, but I think now is the time to give some credit to the new one.

What I imagine is...Axl went home, popped the tapes in, and he was really, REALLY disappointed. And that eventually led to the 2 of them splitting....but slowly, over time. They tried to work it out, but Axl seemed to really change as a person b/w 1993-1996.

Its so sad to hear this interview though....kinda like the last show of the UYI Tour, when Axl n Slash hugged on-stage, and took a final bow just the two of them, before disappearing forever.

I think they both kinda knew it COULD be the end....Axl said he thought the band was done BEFORE the illusion tour. but then again, he seems to have to ruin anything thats good for him.

so when they bowed, i think they both thought maybe its over....maybe not....they DID know the tour was over though...

pretty good broadcast, some interesting and funny qoutes from the interview:

Axl - We'd like to make a movie. We filmed everything that we did on the road for the last few years, and we'd like to make a documentary movie and put out a soundtrack to that.

Nick - Yeah, I was wondering, since Duff did his solo album and Slash, you worked on that Jimi tribute album, is anyone else gonna do any solos or work on any other albums?
Slash - Um... Tell you truth, Duff's solo album... Gilby's doing one, it's pretty much finished. That's basically it. I don't have any plans to do... I don't think Axl... You do have one.
Axl - I'm hoping to... I'm trying to put a project together that is kind of a top-secret weapon right now.

Jeff - ... maybe Izzy would be brought back in to help record things. Is there any truth to that?
Axl - Never again! No, not at all. We brought Izzy back in Europe when Gilby had hurt his arm. And then we kinda got blackmailed and we haven't... We really don't wanna have anything to do with Izzy ever since then.
Slash - In all honesty, it was cool to get him back. When the idea came...
Axl - And it was cool when he went away! [laughs]

Axl - We may work with Brian May on a project upcoming... We don't know... And we're hoping to pull that one off. We get along with Brian really well.

Axl - Don't love me. People that do usually cost me lawsuits

Shannon - I just wanted to know, in what musical direction maybe we can expect their next CD, or CDs may go.Slash - Umm...
Axl - I'm about to hear it tonight. [laughs]
Slash - Well, that's too much pressure. Musical direction with the band really has to do with what the band... you know, what we do as a group or as an organization of people. You know, the six of us, constitutes.
Axl - And then I throw in the... [inaudible]
Slash - [laughs] No... I mean, it's really simple and it's a lot less complicated than most of the public thinks.
Axl - How about it's like, compared to the "Illusions", the direction will be a shorter direction. [laughs]
Steve Downs - There you go. Shannon, thanks for the call. Sarah...
Slash - It was no answer.
[everybody laughs]

but yeah you should read the whole thing

After reading it and listen to it, i feel Axl and Slash were trying to out do each other... It was clearly both ego that brought this band to an end...
