everyone's always saying that he can't drum anymore cause he's such a junkie, the truth is that he is one of the best drummers you'll find alive (and i am a drummer myself so i can tell).

i just wish he could have laid of heroin for about 2 weeks longer then he did back in 92 and roadcrew might have released an album.

Um..its not about writing music sober its about playing it without being on drugs. Steven was so strung out on heroin that using it was making his drumming abilities suffer...ask anyone my friend.. that's why he was fired.

But anyways to the question why the hell would the record company care if he was high or not, Guns were all the time in this period and they didn't give a shit? He was a founding member of a then huge band and they could've made a lot of money off of him and this band.

Here is my answer. Because Adler was using drugs when recording Cival War and couldn't get it down right because he got sloppy a certain distance into the song. Just because these songs might have been solid on drums doesn't mean that if he got high and what not, he'd be able to record more. The record company went there because these tracks were fine and they felt they could do something about it but because Adler's dealer walked in they knew he wasn't clean and therefore couldn't trust that he was going to be able to play fine on a day-to-day basis.

 no as a matter of fact, he wasn't on drugs during civil war. he was high on heroin every single day for over a month and then one day he didn't, and he was in a massive heroin-hangover and got some pills from a doctor (who didn't know he was doing smack) and those pills along with what was left of the heroin (it stays in your body for weeks even when you're not high) made him really really sick. nobody could have played in that situation, he told slash that they would have to delay the studio time but the either slash or the record company (i cant remember which) which said they couldn't and so he tried, and the results were 20-30 takes without succeeding.

  and yeah guns were high all the time and it took them fucked up long time to get signed and even when they had, geffen refused to let them record unless they'd get them self together (enough so it wouldn't be too visible).
