help with recording
« on: January 13, 2009, 02:07:56 PM »
hi guys.
i have reinstalled windows, took off vista and put xp back, and now when i plug the guitar in (using a converter off course) in to the line in input, the computer doesn't react...
i use mixcraft acoustuca, but i tried pther programs also, and none of them saw the guitar. when it recorded it used another microphone (i think the microphone of the webcam), i took all of those out, fixed the setting in controll panel so the main microphone will be the one plugged in to the motherboards sound thingy, but its still not working....

please help me!
thx

i didn't get a driver with it...
it's just a normal thingy, you plug the big jack in it, and it has a small jack at the end, which i can plug in to the computer...

I don't think that is going to work.  I sort of suck at these things but uhh   wait blue hole?  isn't the red hole for the mic ?

also uhh... I still don't think its going to work.  isn't guitar like line level mofo-ish-nish  ... like no pre-amp-ish-nish ?

 sorry laughhing at how much I suck now...

I think you need some sort of card that will at least give you a signal boost  :paranoid: at least.  and then there are uhh breakout boxes type deals?  :shy:  I forget half of what I used to.

he would need to have an amp...  that would act like the 'pre' and then he can do headphone out from the amp to the soundcard.... sure that would work

IF you are going to plug your guitar straight into your computer it will work but it will sound like SHIT. You need a pre-amp if you want it to sound decent. The best one I can think of for the cheapest money is the Line 6 Toneport GX, its 50 bucks comes with built in effects and has a decent sound. The better the pre amp the better the recording and the quality of even a $50 pre amp beats the shit out of any mic that is $50 under. Basically you have to install software for the pre amp and thats how it will recognize the guitar. The actual pre amp is very small and light weight and you plug your guitar into the pre amp, then the pre amp comes with a cable that plugs into the USB port (atleast this is how it works with the Toneport GX). Thats all I know. If your computer is not detecting your guitar simply with you plugging your guitar straight into the comp, either you have to change your sound settings or your computer doesn't support it (the soundcard) for ex. my laptop doesn't let me directly plug in my guitar but my other desktop comp does.  Good luck

tone of gods through effects put onto a CD-Rom?

Thats the only downside to all cheap pre amps (line 6 included), all those CD's/software they give you for "effects" are really bad. People always say "you gotta play around with it to get a killler tone!"

no
