Why do you compare the 1980's GNR with the present GNR?
« on: January 19, 2009, 06:49:04 PM »
Evolution. Then & now. It is like being co dependent in a bad relationship. How can anyone or anything move on, change or evolve if compared to how it was before? Not given a chance to grow? Fond memories, songs and people will always remain in ones mind/heart.Yet, keep an open mind to the changes, the new as well. Axl is an excellent front man , singer man,( no doubt) showman, exciting entertainer. Actually political in his tunes. He has NOT SOLD OUT. The day I see him on a reality show, then I will know. You can see it is in his heart. Think about it. So while we love the days gone by of early GNR, it is what it is, was and shall ever be. TIMELESS. But embracing the new is cool too if given a chance. He held true to HIS dream, his belief, and that is what is cool. Hell, how many of us have even done that in our own lives? This is what catches my eye to even listening. I respect that with any artist. He is and always will be a veteran of something great.

I honestly believe the "current gnr" if thats what you'd like to call them, have produced the progression sound through Chinese Democracy. Moving onwards from the uyi's. This of course is taking Axl's lead.

I believe Slash wasn't really into this, and wanted to churn out the same old formula over and over. Which isn't going to work. Those songs, way they dressed etc only ever suited that particular time. It would be embarasing and ridiclious for the old gnr mmembers to reunite dressing like they did in 1987. As you said, its timeless.

Im defo more a fan of Axls style. (comparing to Velvet Revolver). Slash and Axl together made it special. I do admit i prefer the music they made together, but I also respect gnr now. No-thing else out there sounds like Chinese Democracy. I agree when you said Axl stayed true.

You guys have said it all.

There's no way to compare, new GnR is an evolution. Slash and Duff didn't want to move on (their band's sound is the proof) and so Axl found himself a great new team, one that understands his mind.
What Axl did with Slash in the past is surely magical, they were like yin and yang. But it's gone forever and doesn't fit in anymore.

This is what I think of it but there are different (I'd say nonsense) point of views, so keep the discussion going  :slywink:

the new band is so blur, axl dances so slow these times,he doesn't sell the drama on stage anymore, these times he seems an uptown boy pretending to be rude on stage...the old band was just magical, they showed the true dirty rock n' roll that no one else was able to give ...they were so special at watching them together on stage, they did know how to kick in the ass while playing in front of the media and fans

...the new band it's not a band, they're only musicians who get paid by Mr Rose, they just do what axl wants them to show,no fan can understand why axl just didn't re-name GNR,when axl came back in 2001 he didn't have to use the name to sell all his lies around, the original guys used their talent to shock the whole planet!

....another foolish question asked by you again?

I have to agree, I don't know why anyone classes the new gnr as a band, it's just Axl Rose and co, it's his vision, not theirs, they get told what to play. Chinese Democracy is a great album with great musicians, but the old gnr had that magical energy that you can't replicate. The great thing about UYI was that it was a clash between dirty rock and soft ballads which worked brilliantly because it satisfied a large audience.

No man, I'm not agree with that. every member made his own visions visible in the songs. they co-wrote the songs with rose and you can't order a musician like Tommy Stinson to play only what you want. man he's the ex-replacements bassist for gods sake. another one is buckethead which is an avant-garde musician who plays whatever comes out from his own mind and maybe you can tell him to co-wrote with you but you can't make him play only what you want.

this is an Updated GN'R to me and I don't even want to call it new-gnr. to me guns n roses are all of these guys who stayed with Axl untill the release of CD.

VR is a good band too but it has nothing to do with GNR anymore.

the old gnr was a band, a gang everyone had a say what would be done and what would not be done (from the start till 91 i mean) after that it was kinda axl, slash and duff the bosses the rest (meaning matt, dizzy, gilby and teddy) just employees. today it's just like james heatfield descriped guns "one guy and some other guys", i mean do you seriously think that Axl would cancel a tour, Fortus or bumblefoot didn't want to do the tour? hell no, Axl would just find new guitarists.

back on tobic, no i would not compare them, just like i wouldn't compare VR with the current GNR.

who the fuck do you think we're? we're not jerk enough to believe in your vulgar tail, right?

.....the original band were there just to make axl rich and famous when axl used to roam in los angeles without a coin to eat a rotten hot dog, didn't you know?

...axl would be still shit today if he didn't know the original lineup, how can you say that VR has nothing to with the gnr THEN :paranoid:?

...shut up If you try to lie to us that fucking way again! slash made axl get a millionaire contract to be a rock star!

...those new musicians are just musicians(the new lineup),they're not celebrities just 'cause they playing old stuff when everyone knows that the old lineup produced it A LONG TIME AGO!

...let me clean your memory: the new members have played with N'sync and Christina Aguilera when they just got paid for those true celebrities at recording their albums, you should google their biographies instead of repying crap right here

...B.H or Robin can play wherever they want, don't you think that Mr Rose could kick the new lineup SOMEDAY if he has a new idea about how to re-build GNR? of course he would!

...so your point of view always means shit here,i don't know what to think about you

...thank God about Duff doesn't live 3 doors down your home 'cause he could knock on your door just to strike your face!

...it's time to show some respect for the ORIGINAL LINEUP....NEW GNR wouldn't be here today if adler, duff, slash and izzy didn't have the stupid idea to help axl understand how to be a famous singer!

Perfect - couldn't say it better myself!
Finally someone with the mind in the right place!
It is n' it will always be GN'R.
Axl's will to make it with the worst demons n' nightmares he had n' has in his life is one hell of an achievement n' turns Axl into a very good n' positive model to everyone who can see it!
Thanks Axl not only for this record but to show that yes, we can do almost everything we can when we have real dreams n' when we have something that is for real inside our hearts.
Thank you.

first of all you better clean your mouth from those words when you don't know whom you're talking to.

2nd: Once in Los Angeles, Rose began performing with various local bands, including Rapidfire, Rose, L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose. While struggling to make an impact on the Hollywood music scene, Rose held down a variety of survival jobs, including the position of night manager at the Tower Records location on Sunset Boulevard. In an attempt to earn money.

3rd: Regarding the paranoia fancy of "slash made axl get a millionaire contract to be a rock star!" read this:

Rose and his L.A. Guns bandmate Tracii Guns formed Guns N' Roses in March 1985. The band was a merger of L.A. Guns and Hollywood Rose, and featured musicians who had played for one or both groups, including Ole Beich and Duff McKagan. The band debuted at the Troubadour in Hollywood and proceeded to play the L.A. circuit, eventually building a fan following and attracting the attention of several record companies

hmm? where's slash mister?

and I'm not here to argue with a teenage hyper excited 16 17 years old about whether it was axl who made GNR big or the other 4. obviously it was all 5 of them. no argue to this.

but the other 3 meaning slash, duff, steve except Izzy gone retard and Drug addicts. that's all they just banged their head at younger ages. but everyone knows that Axl always took care of himself and even took care of his ex-band mates.

now we have a healthy Mr. Rose ready to kick the asses of the new-lineup haters like you. and about ex-members except Mr Stradlin:

Steven Adler = Cocaine Addict (I don't suggest it to you if you want to inspire from him!]

Saul Hudson = well.. yes he once had the magic and now our guitar Idol plays for brilliant musicians! how do you feel watching him playing for fergy and some other similar bitches...  huh? tell me?

Duff McKagan =  :puke:
------------------------------------------------------------------

the Era has changed and GUNS N' ROSES PROUDLY ARE: W. Axl Rose, Robin Finck, Tommy Stinson, BucketHead, Ron Thal, Dizzy Reed, Mr. Chris Pitman, Brian Mantia, Frank Ferrer, Paul Huge, Richard Fortus.

face it, or leave this forum for a more suitable forum with your ideas. like VR forums. but IF you want to stay here try to stay polite when you're talking about Mr. Rose.
