Mac OS X “Leopard” users? [need help]
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:06:24 PM »
I know maybe this is the wrong section to post this but I thought people who post in this section are more serious and grown to help me on this.

I'm on Vista and I want to completely format my Hard disk and start with a Mac Leopard. but before I do that I need to know if it's compatible with some essential programs that I'm using:

AutoCad
Adobe Premier
Office Word
Maya
Corel Draw

Thanks

I'm afraid its not compatible with ANY of those programs no joke!. And u really don't want to go and spend THAT much money on AutoCad just to bring it home to an unsupported operating system.

Hey what do you use Maya for if you don't mind me asking

All of those programs are compatible on Mac except AutoCAD.

You have to have a Mac to install Leopard though.
You can create a separate partition and install Windows however, then boot into Windows then install and use AutoCAD.

Hope it helps. Peace.

alright now I found that for running AutoCad on Mac Leopard There's two ways. one's that you can run Boot Camp and Install a fresh copy of windows by that and like what L!VE said boot into windows.

but another solution seems easier which is running Windows on Mac just like a program and then run AutoCad in it with help of "Parallels Desktop" software.

You have to have a Mac to install Leopard though.

this time you don't need to have a Mac to install a Mac OS and Leopard's Desktop Versions can be running on PC intel based systems.

Apple states the following basic Leopard system requirements, although, for some specific applications and actions (such as iChat backdrops) an Intel processor is required:[43]

    * Processor must be any Intel, PowerPC G5 or G4 (867 MHz and faster)
    * DVD drive (for installation of the operating system)
    * At least 512 MB of RAM (additional RAM (1 GB) is recommended for development purposes)
    * At least 9 GB of disk space available.

Leopard's retail version was not released in separate versions for each type of processor, but instead consisted of one universal release that could run on both PowerPC and Intel processors.[27] Leopard drops support for slower G4 and all G3 processors.[43] Because all new Macs use Intel processors, the versions of Leopard shipped with them are Intel only.

Please post any information you have on the matter L!VE FREE.

Thanks

You can do what you want, but personally I'd just go with the Boot Camp route. This is free and
comes with an easy to follow Install Guide.

Parallels is expensive I think like $79-99 and don't like it personally. It's obviously a gigantic drain on resources to
run Windows while running OS X and it's not a problem restarting to Boot into Windows. Takes 1 minute tops.

So I'd personally go with the Boot Camp/non-Parallels route.

Peace

well, actually this is the first time I wanna use a Mac OS and what you said makes sense.

because I don't want to get into any trouble while using the new OS. MAC is totally something new to me you know.

WAIT STOP!!!

Yes Mac OS can be run on a machine with an intel processor.  But not any machine, it has to be a mac.  Macs have ROM chips which validate that the software is being installed and run on a mac machine.  You can not run MAC OS on any normal PC it must be a mac.

(Ok you can with some illegal versions of the software and a bit of hacking and pc know how, but, no one will ever be able to get that running completely stable)

Why on earth would you want to replace Windows for Mac?  For a start, the fact you can't run the programs you need makes it an illogical move...
