Purpose of CD
« on: February 22, 2009, 08:08:32 PM »
I am just wondering what the objective of CD was.  Clearly art and money are two, but I want to know if there were any other.  I guess what I am trying to ask is if the social justice angle of the music is just another money making ploy, or if there is an attempt to motivate others to bring about a better world.

I am not trying to sound like I believe there isn't a sincere desire to be of service through the album on some level.  I am just wondering how far and how much of a desire there is.

That's all,

Thanks.

Many of th songs deal with lost love and a certain past relationship. It is a common belief that the relationship in question is that of the protagonist and Stephanie Seymour. Stephanie had a son for whom Axl acted as a father figure for some time and to whom he both parties became extremely attached. In a certain interview(making of estranged) Axl stated that his seperation from Stephanie was eclipsed by the loss he felt in regards to her son no longer being a part of his life. He expressed a wish for him to know just how much he cared for and continued to care for him. He later said that a lot of the album Chinese Democracy would be directed towards him. It would be addressed to the child to offer an explanation as to why he was no longer a part of his life etc.

the only logical purpose of C.D album is to keep axl's fame alive still but those poor musicians won't support axl's madness for so long

...someday the band will be destroyed by axl himself, the creepy gnr story will be the same again, there's a second part of that history to reveal still...oh fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :smoke:

With all the respect your opinion is completely wrong on Chinese Democracy.

in fact the real logical purpose of ChiDem album is to keep the Guns N' Roses name and legacy alive. at least Axl made it possible to us fans to see our favorite band on stage once again.

the thing the ex-members couldn't understand and did everything they could by talking shit after shit about Rose in the media and press to push him back from his desire to make the band keep going.

from what I know Chinese Democracy sold about 3 million copies world wide and it continues to sell more.

and As long as Axl is the frontman this band never dies. where were you all these years? this band was always alive. ten years past since Oh My God single released in '99 as well as Rock In Rio III happened in 2001 and it's 2009 now.

Entertaining people, man.  That's the purpose of all music, and it's nice to make a few bucks while at it.
"chinese democracy MIGHT start now" -GnRForLife
Let me get this straight.  Song #2 is NOT, I repeat, N-O-T Prostitute.
"He's in my ass! That's where Slash is! Fuckhead! Go Home!" -W Axl Rose

while it is obviously aimed at making a profit and keeping the name alive I think its main purpose is to create art. So many delays and the diversity and how personal the music is makes me believe that the focus has been more about music quality than trying to push a product. The fact that no song on the album follows a basic pop song formula makes me wonder whether commercial success really played a big part in creating this album. What I mean is songs often divert from having a recurring chorus such as Chinese Democracy the title song and promo single using a verse only twice in the whole piece and changing the lyrics around in the chorus making it more of a bridge. Same with Better which many have defined as the most pop song on the album, it dosen't have a definitive chorus rather two different "bridges" and throws in too many transitions for the average idiot listnener

:retard: People think they know Axl for complete, they think they know what feel and has felt these past years, well we don't know, but for sure money was not the motivation to Axl, he wouldn't need to write emotional lyrics just to get more money, it's very stupid to think these way

Chinese Democracy is too emotional and too personal. It's about Axl overall. And I strongly believe he did it for himself in first place, then to keep the legacy of GnR alive - following what has always been his vision of the band. Then, at last, to make art and in someway contribute to the world. CD's social impact probability is smaller than its possible personal life influences though.

I agree that Axl didn't make it for money. Wasn't a purpose but it's a consequence. CD costed 13 million so they have to make money to pay for it, anyway.
