US President Barack Obama is expected to lift restrictions on federal funding for research on new stem cell lines, according to reports.

Officials say Mr Obama will authorise the move by executive order on Monday.

President George W Bush blocked the use of any government money to fund research on human embryonic stem cell lines created after 9 August 2001.

Scientists say stem cell research will lead to medical breakthroughs, but many religious groups oppose the research.

The embryonic stem cells used in research tend to be harvested from unused embryos created as a result of in vitro fertilisation treatment at fertility clinics.

Stem cells are cells with the capacity to turn into any other type of human cell, be it bone, muscle or nerve cell.

One embryo can provide a limitless supply because the cell lines can be grown indefinitely.

I have to watch the rest later as I just saw a little bit as I got into work, but the Obama Press Conference on Earmarks really made me feel good inside. Seemed to me to be good steps at reforms and I liked the transparency that he seems to be trying to install.

Also really liked the idea of Senator's post stuff on their websites. Hopefully it won't be tucked away in some corner of the internet like it is now, but each Senator will have a very well designed website. e.g.: http://www.DianneFeinstein.com and all the other senators from each state.

We need to quit talking about how valuable technology is and start implementing it.

I was watching some World News on PBS yesterday and they were talking about Obama's decision to try and make some deals with the terrorist group Al Queda <-- And I don't care if thats not how its spelt. Fuck them.

When I heard that he was going to do this (about a week ago) I thought it futile. I'm a firm believer that these guys have a spiritual agenda which they won't just be talked out of.

He said he was going to talk to more "moderate" Queda members.

So.. they interviewed members of Queda in different parts of Afghanistan and all of them said that Obama is an idiot, a dreamer and that the only thing Obama needs to talk about is quitting and pulling out. They said they were unified and that there is only ONE Al Queda and they all answer strictly to one man who himself answers only to Allah. Allah says they are fighting a just war, are dying glorious deaths and will eventually win the war against their Western Oppressors.

One of their leaders sent a letter to Obama telling him that there is no sense in talking and that he awaits Obama's letter declaring he is going to pull out immediately.

Now this shit isn't new to me. Its not shocking in the least. When he talked about doing this before he was elected I said he was living in a dream world. Now that he put it out there and Queda don't want to hear it, I'd like to see what you guys say about being "diplomatic" with these people? Obama failed in thinking he could be.

Now what?

I say we keep bombing and flush them out till the people can gather enough power within themselves to keep them down. Its either that or we pull out and leave the place a mess which will become much worse.

Do you guys finally get that these people can't be talked to or is there another method we should try? Maybe do it old school and send them gold, jewelry and 50 virgins?

(When I get home I'm going to see if I can find the broadcast online for you guys so you can hear how sure of themselves these terrorist are. Their faith almost makes them seem as if they're invincible. Very dangerous mindset..)

That conspiricy covers way too much ground. Someone ("the man") is pulling all these strings, even behind our new Messiah like presidents back and arranging for hundreds of thousands of people in another part of the world to take arms and happily die in a war against our own sons and daughters who are also dying.

This to get more oil. Only "the man" knows this though since everyone else in the USA  is busting their heads trying to move to new types of fuel and technology which we hope to use to reduce our oil needs as a nation drastically. We're talking a 75-80% drop in imported oil as the goal.

I've said it time and time again that I'd rather not speculate or come up with bullshit theories on anything. I deal with what is known and whats in front of us.

Funny though how my previous post shot down some of your (you know who you people are) theories and ideas and now I'm hearing "maybe those terrorist aren't even real" or "they're working for 'the man'".

i think it's like the stereo type of americans all being fat statistically it's worth commenting on but not all are. Statistically most of the Al Queda members are probably religious but not all.

we can't successfully bomb them all since we have no real idea who is and who isn't a member and they get new recruits as often as the armed forces in the states and the UK. Killing them all isn't feasible as a solution it's a short term small scale solution to the issue at hand.




what angers me about this is that the terrorists only chance to have the USA pull out of their countries is by talking like diplomats and i think Shawn even you can admit (as a christian) that the diplomatic approach has to at least be attempted. Now that this has been tried out i think the war has to commence.

What is to be noted is that i at least have never condoned giving the arabs (zealots or not) anything more than they deserve: their land, their oil and their right to government based on their choosing but abiding to UN constitution.

If they will not accept the potential offer for these things then the only diplomacy left is death.

However i would like to understand Osama Bin Laden's approach to this, what with him being a very highly educated man and being known as a patriot during the war on Russia i think his input as the head man of al queda is what is needed to determine the next actions of the rest of the world
