Dean Soltero's, a decent well priced LP Alternative?
« on: March 08, 2009, 04:20:26 AM »
Whilst looking for a decently priced Les Paul standard or any Mahogany/Maple based guitar body for that matter I came across the Dean Soltero Standard!
It features a solid MHG body with maple top yet it costs less than the Gibson studio model which has no maple top.
£550 If you put a jb/jazz combo pup set in there i'd imagine it'd sound great!! Too good to be true? I'm going to try find one to try out, it may save me a lot of money! The standard LP's are going for around £1300+

Uh-huh, you need to test one of those and get back to us on how they sound; right now I'm tempted to order one for myself and try to have sex with it...

Try and find an Edwards Les Paul.

I've got an Edwards LP jr, and it shits all over the new Gibsons. It cost me £400 i think.

Its built the way Gibson used to make em back in the day, with the long tenon, mahogany wood, proper TV yellow finish....

Really any Japanese Les Paul will kick ass...Greco, Burny, old Tokai.....

The new Burny's with a Sustainer in the neck are lovely.
Scott will be joining GnR on air guitar. Fuelled primarily by heroin and aids.

I don't know!

Based on the pictures you posted I'd go with the white one. It's shit hot.
The black one still looks awesome though.

I thought white too!
The black one would look better with black pickup mounts and hardware in my opinion!

+1 on the Edwards Les Pauls. They're the shit. They come in some really nice finishes and have top quality pick ups stock.

Same goes for ESP EC-500, 400 and 1000s.

Never heard much about the Deans but they're probably pretty decent.

Gibsons are nice and all but for what they actually are, Gibson could probably sell them for a little over half of what they do and still make a profit. You pay a high premium for the name, which isn't worth it unless you have money to burn imo.

I wouldn't want anyone fucking in my yard

There are plenty of killer looking guitars that play like poopy.  and plenty of kicked across the street look guitars that play better

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

I wouldn't say it's a frills only guitar though. It's made from mahogany with a maple top..with a JB SD bridge pickup! Those are LP standard stats right there!
I've heard good things but i'm waiting till i can try one out for myself.

my point is you can find many lp or gibson copies with these specs for only a hundred bucks or so.  means nothing. I remember once I walked into this guys ancient guitar shop and seen a les paul custom looking guitar for $200 (Samick) .... I was like whoa wow ... so sexy... etc...   but I was nieve
