SHOOTER JENNINGS - JENNINGS TURNS DOWN VELVET REVOLVER

Country star SHOOTER JENNINGS has twice turned down the chance to replace SCOTT WEILAND as the frontman of VELVET REVOLVER.
The supergroup, featuring former Guns N' Roses stars Slash, Duff MCKagan and Matt Sorum, sacked Weiland after a series of public rows in April (08) and have been looking for a new lead vocalist ever since.
They had earmarked Jennings as the perfect replacement but despite repeated pleas to join the band, the country rocker has decided to concentrate on solo material.
He tells Classic Rock magazine, "It pained my heart not to say yes, because those guys are the best players in the world. They're literally one of the best bands I've ever heard and to be able to sing with them has been amazing.
"But I had a talk with them about it, and I would absolutely still, to this day, get in a room and jam with them, but first of all, I knew I was gonna be doing another record and that what I wanted to do was really special to me, and I didn't feel I could stifle that.
"I didn't feel like my next step should to be to go from feeling like my back was broken by Nashville to stepping into the shoes of Scott Weiland and singing that stuff. I kinda said, 'If you wanna get together and do some stuff, that'd be fine, but I don't know about me going out and singing those songs, and being the replacement for Scott Weiland, after Axl."

What the hell does Axl have to do with VR anyway?

I found this hard to believe really.....    I seen him jam with these guys and it was pretty bad...  I remember him singing Paradise City..  at the Viper Room?

I just don't see him fitting
What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

Well whoever the next Singer for VR is, they will constantly be getting compared to both Axl and Scott, I think this guy was trying to say that he doesn't want that, thats why he brought up Axl.

this is a gig that would make you a guarenteed millionaire, and it would be at the cost of ever being able to pursue musical ambitions of their own.  UNless they're already established, like Wieland was/is, then they'll have to sell out to take the gig.  They'll also always be less than Axl.....and probably be viewed as less than Scott as well......he is pretty damn good.  I don't think a few million bucks would make being 3rd place worth it to me either.

Cool to see he respects that trio.

I wonder what type of band VR would be if they got Kid Rock to be their front man. I don't know.. the idea just hit me but I'm almost certain that with Kid Rock they would be able to create some really good fucking rock n roll. Kid is also a great frontman and showman. He'd actually give Axl a gooooooooood run for his money with those guys behind him.

I know its just "what if" but I really believe in a battle of the bands, new Gn'R with DJ (playing ONLY new GnR songs) would get dominated by a Kid Rock fronted Velvet Revolver.

Why?  Rapping and 80's flat top aside the dude is a talented mother fucker. He can play all kinds of instruments and comes up with some great lyrics whether hard core or soft meaningful shit.

He's also one of these days premier rock stars. Him on stage with the boys would be nothing but nothing but good I think.

Which tribute was that? And no way do I think Kid is flawless. He comes across as REALLY corny sometimes. I'm sure Slash's coolness would cover that factor though.
