New effects.
« on: April 02, 2009, 04:13:41 PM »
Hey all, I'm about to buy some new effects to use for my band. (live and with rehearsals)
Does anyone have some good tips.

I'm now looking at some Amp Boosters, Delays, Chorus, Metal, Hot-rock, grundge, blues.

For the dutch.

Hey, heeft iemand kennis met Ampbooster(pedaaltjes) metal/hotrock/grundge...
is het te aanraden in plaats van een groot effectenpedaal waar je uit 140 effecten gewoon niet jouw ene toon kan vinden bijv?

pretty general question......

you want digital or analog? for what style... what tone.....  ..   rack gear or stomp.... black or white...  big or small   :phrozen:

ones that fizz or sizzle.. or comfort you or repeat you or never shut up or are too quiet.. smart ... stupid....  blow you

??
What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

I might... I'm gonna try out more effects coming week.
Just to find that sound so when the lead guitar does his thing you know. the Ego solo :P(slash style... you never know when he quits.. it could be within 10 secs to 10 minutes... good way to stretch a song though:P

but I wanna find a tone so the music don;t dies with that solo. and you can still get some punching guitar rythms from my side going together with the bass

It;s just to bad that there aren't so many stores in my region that sells some big cases to put em all in. but I might make my own one. or make a large board or something.

I keep it updated.

I thought the sweep on the Zakk wah was too over the top. The actual "wah" part was just a really small part of the sweep, which made it fiddly to get those frequencies all the time with my foot action. It's cool if you want that but fro a traditional wah sound it's a bit of a pain. I ended up getting the Dime wah, which is basically just the top end crybaby with more bite, a boost switch and badass camo graphics.

As for effects... well, if you have a tube amp, imo your best bet is to get a rack multi fx unit and run that through the loop. Then run an analogue overdrive and wah into the front of the amp.

I got a TC Electronic G Major 2 recently. It was £400 but if you have money to burn (or like me, don't, but are insane) it sounds truly EPIC for mod fx like delay, chorus, phaser and flange etc. It also has pitch shifting, a pretty decent gate and a basic eq.

A cheaper option would be the BOSS ME and GT floor units or the Line 6 POD stuff.

As for overdrive, a tubescreamer or sd-1 should do fine. You could get a high end keeley tubescreamer or keeley modded sd-1 if you really wanted to, though. The digitech bad monkey is also a good option and a bit of a hidden gem as far as cheap tubescreamer clones go.

As for distortion, steer clear of anything that has metal, mega, turbo, ultra, super, death, hyper or anything like that on it. In the distortion pedal world, all of these words are synonymous with gay.

what about über ???  :gay:

but anyway what you're saying is true, stay away from them. I'm not that fond of distortion pedals at all actually.. I want to get the drive sound out of my amp and only boost it with overdrive for solos . and to be honest I really havent heard good distortion pedal yet

well, after a day terrorizing a music store with my band... and Oh yeah.. they loved us   we want to try this, try that... wait what's the most expensive stuff.. gimme gimme gimme:P

Tried out the new Marshall amp the JVC 410 or something :P

I've bought the following today. (monday a few more)

Boss DS1 Distortion.
Boss MD2 mega distortion (for some this thing might be to..... but It gives me the right amount of Distor for the songs in my band. a perfect counterpart to the other lead guitar player)
The Carl Martin Plexitone.

and a Reck for the pedals wich isn;t big enough for the future... but we'll see.

The carl martin thing is a Booster for your amp and it;s great,  it also has a gain level on it for more Overdrive  but it's not that good though.

And also bought A cry Baby.

Monday I;m gonna by the boss Ch1 super chorus. and then I Have my guitar sound for now..

up next. A van! haha.  perhaps something like this

Boss Fuzz FZ-5 Effect Pedal

That's one of my fave pedals ever

But it depends what kind of sound your band has, could sound like shit if not used properly

If you're going to get a Fuzz pedal, you may aswell go for the Zvex Fuzz Factory.  :phrozen:
Scott will be joining GnR on air guitar. Fuelled primarily by heroin and aids.

I own and love the fuzz factory, but it's hardly the most useful thing in the world if you're just looking for a fuzz pedal.
