To answer your questions, it is pretty clear that Axl REALLY does not like Slash, and he has made that clear as recent as the Del James interview
Also, it was the first time out with the new guys, I could see him rubbing a Slash comment off in 2006 but he was proabably still a little concerned on how the band would be received in 2002
