Hey bro, I don't support PETA and their ilk in the least, they are extremists, which in anything (dare I say us being on here all day long haha) is a bad thing. However, with my father being a leading veterinary neurosurgeon/neurologist, I have some semblance of an understanding as to WHY it is a bad thing to keep primates as pets. Due to having higher brain function (thus, emotions, a psyche) primates - which we are - are susceptible to depression. Where we differ from our less developed "cousins" is an ability to fully understand our surroundings and to adapt psychologically to them. When you remove an animal from environments etc that are genetically imprinted in the animal's brain and senses as far as where and what it is "supposed" to encounter, depression is VERY common, to a higher degree in primates. Very social animals as well, so basically unless you own 20 monkeys, keep them in a similar environment to that they would encounter in the wild, and therefore provide them with the natural enrichment they literally NEED, they suffer for it. We project our own feelings etc onto animals, but even the ones we are closely related to need vastly different settings than us. So in short, yeah, I'm educated on and correct about the subject. Not trying to jump your shit, just putting the information out there for people to learn and know.
rules are made for everybody, even the good guys.http://www.honoluluzoo.org/pets.htm13. You may be the best pet-primate owner in the world, but by purchasing an infant primate, you are perpetuating a business that leads to miserable lives for many of the very animals you profess to adore.
