Axl Painting.. and more to come..

Hey guys, I just wanted to post a pic of my Axl painting.  I am an art major at Auburn University in Alabama, and our final project this semester was supposed to represent something in American art history, or to make a statement about American art.  I stretched it a little bit and included all "the arts" so that I could paint Axl haha.  It worked out, and here is my piece - Acrylics over spray paint, 30"x40" canvas, took approximately 20 hours to paint.  I used many thin layers to develop the depth in the skin tones etc, and I believe the piece came out rather well considering the limited amount of time I had on it.  The lighting was not great for photographing the piece, but I'll try to get some better shots up.  I am now considering doing a very large (maybe 6'x10' wood panel) Axl collage, but that is only in the idea stages at the moment.  I will include my "artist's statement" if you will, albeit a short version:

This is a painting that represents the lack of masculinity in American males today, the "pussification" of America if you will.  Axl Rose represents the last real male celebrity, before hair products, sexual ambiguity, and the "touchy-feely" epidemic hit this country.  Emphasis is put on Axl with his portrait being the only object in the 30x40 canvas, and the atmospheric perspective represents a void that follows, an unfulfilled role, perhaps a role unfairly asked to be fulfilled by anyone post-Axl.

A closer view, although the lighting does wash out some of the finer detail, again I will try to get some better pics.

Actually the photo I worked from was from the Rio show in '91, and with the stage lighting and I guess from spending time in Rio, Axl was actually really tan in that show... Add artistic license and what would look best on the charcoal portion of the canvas and there you have it haha

Haha nails suggestion, but honestly, if I tried to spin off of the "Paintin with a pencial" thread, it would be an injustice plain and simple... Nothing can reach the epic level of that gem hahaha

Thank you, I appreciate the comment.  I believe my next Axl, or Guns, painting is going to be in a LeRoy Neiman style.  I've always admired his baseball paintings, and my dad has a print of his Secretariat piece that I've liked since I was a little kid.  Been real busy, I'll be sure to post any new ones I do.  I have a charcoal rendering of Slash that I did a few years ago, I'll try to get that one up as well
