Axl's singing is not as good on Chinese Democarcy the Album

Am I the only one that thinks Axl has lost some of his greatness in his singing on the last record Chinese Democracy the Album.  Axl sounds great on some tracks but weak on others.  I think Axl should go back to singing like he used to.  Not sure if he has lost skills or has just changed his style or what.  He sounded good on the old songs in 2006 tour.  Maybe it is just a new style that does not really fit his voice.

What do you think?  Personally I think Axl's voice sounds a lot better on his other albums.  It could be age or maybe being out of practice.  Some times I think he is trying to save his voice and not be as hard on it as he used too.  On some of his old songs I always wondered how he sang like he did without losing his voice.

His voice sounds mind-blowingly amazing. You can appreciate it more when you listen to the songs without the guitar.
He truly has talent.

It'd probably be easier for him to sing the old way rather than what he is doing now. Some of the screams he does on Chinese Democracy sound amazing, he has really pushed himself here, and its worked for him well

I.R.S., There Was A Time, Catcher in the Rye (backing vocals), Chinese Democracy (Lower Vocals & Chorus), Madagascar, and Street of Dreams (Except the lyrics in the outro). Those are the songs that have vocals from at least 2002 and the first three have some from at least 1999.

Don't worry, you're not the only one who's noticed. Honestly, I think it comes down to age more than anything. His current voice seems to be a combination of the old era and the mickey mouse era. It seems that at times, he is capable of working the old voice if he chooses but I have a feeling it's really hard on him so he chooses to sing this new way. He definintely doesn't have (Or use) that "Rasp" or "Bite" that he used to have. But as you said, just listen to any of the 06-07 shows and it's clear that he can still pull it off if he wants to.

the rasp thing of old, and now no longer really being present, comes down to, i think, him no longer smoking, age, and technique. he sings more from his diaphragm rather than in his old nasally kinda way, so his technique is better, but i think its simply not smoking and age. the rasp he produces now is again, more technique sounding than natural now. i think i prefer the old but only just.

i have one gripe wiith the vocals on CD, and it's not the vocals themselves, it's the rubbish mix  on cather, whereby his vocals are stupidly low. shame for such a great melody and lyrical content really.

luciano pavarotti said about axl once: "that boy will become mute in a couple of years if he insist in that way to sing" and it never happens. take your own opinion. Axl is the best.

I think Axl grew as a singer and now sings better than ever.

OF course, the guy is 47 and can't keep up a 3 hours set with the power as in his 20s but still, he's a better singer now.

Man cmon have you listen to TWAT at the end, that shit sound fucking awsome, and is the hardest thing he ever sang. What about scraped. I dont know. I really like the voice, better than the MTV show he did in 2003 I guess, that performance suck balls, hes voice sucked balls, so those early 2000 years at rock n rio. 

I guess we have to wait and see the next tour, if theres such a thing.  Now that we listen to CD , we can compare more once he sing those songs live .

He had it in Bachs song "Stuck Inside". He also had it on a few CD tracks. I think it boils down to what some people above said.. he's just not using it.
