SLASH:There is an unmistakable sound that me & Izzy's guitars make when performed together.

on twitter regarding his new record...

now if I'm not mistaken I could clearly recall him saying at some point he couldn't stand the way Izzy played and he had to redo some of the parts on the record..and when Gilby came into the fold it was like a breath of fresh air...it's funny how people flip flop sometimes.. ok, this was my poor addition to the boards..yay...F'off if you try to burn me...lol.

I don't recall Slash ever griping about Izzy's guitar playing. Do you have a source?

I do recall him saying that he never thought that he'd ever work with another guitar player, but praised Gilby for fitting in really well and pleasantly surprising him. This was in one of the Makin' F@#$ Videos docs.

I remember it being quite the opposite. Slash loved how Izzy's guitar and his went well together, and that Gilby was the only guitar player hes ever met with the same characteristics as Izzy. Besides, if Slash didn't like Izzy im pretty sure he wouldn't have had him play shows with VR or even do guitar work with him on his solo album.

I dont ahve a link or reference but what the orginal poster said i have also read. Slash mentioned something about the way Izzy played and him not liking it.

Slash's twitter message clearly states "unmistakable sound". This is much different to what i believe Slash referred to orginally. I think it was Izzy's way of playing that he disliked, not the "sound" of their guitars together.

You're thinking of the recordings for The Spaghetti Incident. Slash said it sounded much better when Gilby re-recorded Izzy's playing. But that was either down to Izzy's attitude at the time or Slash being biased towards his new rythem player

Ridiculous. I've never heard Slash saying anything but good things about Izzy whenever they've asked him about the dude in guitar magazines.

They're like fire and ice those two. Listen to Locomotive, and such.

sorry to contradict you without backing it up with a source, but theres an interview from around '94/5 where slash is less than complimentary about izzy's style. says he never liked it, that it was too sloppy, etc.

Dunno if slash was just trying to make the best of the situation at the time or if he really didn't like izzy as a player. he certainly didnt want izzy in the band originally though.

Damn.. Slash did a hell of a job on that song. I really had no idea it was just him on that one. Fucking amazing work on guitar.

You can hear the Izzy / Slash thing on anything they play then. They definitely had a grove together.

Has Slash ever commented on Keri Kelli? he's played with every top 80's/90's hard rock band at some stage in his career.
He's a great guitarist and songwriter too, I think he compliments Slash way better than Izzy/Gilby/Dave ever could. As Slash has to bring out his 'A' game to compliment/keep up with him.
