These things happen, but unfortunately it has been a slow process that the harddrive has been breaking down which caused many unknown issues now... in the recovery process.
The hard drive has been failing. Large sections of the drive are unusable.
Over the last day we installed a new drive in the server so that we can start a fresh installation of the OS and start the recovery process.
Right now the data on the old failed disk _might_ be salvagable, however we don't know to what extent.
Trying to recover lost data.
My guy Tom was partly successful. He got CD up and running again, but previous night's backup was unusable, so we had to roll back to the July 14th backups since the drive has been failing during routine backups that it couldn't handle over the last month. In fact the drive finally died Tuesday morning during the backup of gunsnroses.us (mostly the tracker). << which we are trying to find data for that is not corrupt.
the gunsnroses.us is in worse shape. Since the system was making a monthly backup copy at the same time the server failed, rendering even the monthly backup useless for .us which effects our weekly backups.
Tom is in the process of trying to recover the files from the old drive for that site, but it is slow going due to the errors.
We have put ... well I am away with family when all this is happenning with limited internet access, so Tom is putting many hours on this recovery so far..
I am making my way home today to see if I can recover any data as well.
Sorry this is happening and we are trying to sort it out.
Sean

ps. Lets rally behind Tom for his efforts and hoping he can get the data we lost!! as much as possible
