Inspired by hearing a truelly painful version of "Mr Blue Sky" by Lily Allen - i wont post a link, its so awful - and i was wondering what you guys would say are your favourite covers of songs. Spaghetti Incident not included obviously. I'd like to see choices where the band has tried to give something new to the song, but whatever floats your boat...

Tool - No Quarter (Led Zep)

Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower (Bobby Dylan)

The White Stripes - Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself (Errm, Burt Bacharach??)

Rodrigo y Gabriella - Stairway (Zep)

All Along the Watchtower and Just Don't Know What to do With Myself are a couple of my favorites too.

I also like these:

Knocked Up performed by Lykke Li, the live version.

Feeling Good performed by Muse

The best cover by Motley Crue is Teaser (Tommy Bolin).

Van Halen - Dancing In The Streets (Martha & The Vandellas)

DLR - Just A Gigolo. Plus he did several good covers on his Diamond Dave album including Tomorrow Never Knows (The Beatles), If 6 was 9 (Hendrix), etc.. worth checking out.

Speaking of Beatles covers:

Because - Elliott Smith.

Not A Second Time - The Pretenders

Thin Line Between Love And Hate (The Persuaders) - The Pretenders

Heroes (Bowie) - The Wallflowers

Here Comes The Night (Them) - David Bowie
Let's Spend The Night Together (R.Stones) - David Bowie

Soul classics -

Time Is On My Side (Jerry Ragovoy) - The Rolling Stones

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction - Otis Redding

A Change Is Gonna Come (Sam Cooke) - Terence Trent D'Arby (remember him? best soul singer of the last 25yrs)

The tool cover is good. One of my favourite Zep songs.

I enjoyed this immensely.... especially the wall of nuclear holocaust noise at the end:

I saw it played the next night when a stoned Paul McCartney wandered on stage to duet and wave his arms about. It was the greatest event of my life.

I love the original, but when the girlfriend blasts Lily's cover I actually turn it up...it isn't so bad. No every day a pop poppet covers ELO.

This has to win just for the sheer gall of doing this to a radiohead tune.

I totally agree.  Been a long time since i listened to this.

I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain
