I been working many days now restoring from different backups and scraping any missing information I can to build it back. just a few minutes ago i have it back online.  but intesting now.  don't know the extent of the damage.  but I managed to save a lot of torrents today too. i'll see more tmorrow.

for now, the tracker is back but it doesn't work yet.

the damage is not that serious - we lost many accounts and many others were reset, but all that can be fixed easily on demand.
we lost only a few newest torrents, and I have their list, so reuploading them is also easy.
the current aim is to restore tracker's tracking ability, then the rest.

ok here's a couple of news:

first, we found out the old tracker is broken so bad that can't be fixed. so we have to start a new one from scratch.
you all know the old tracker was insanely buggy, with many features working half-way or not at all.
we're currently testing a brand new tracker system (xbtit) which seems to be fine.
we will keep you informed of course, and we'll try to run the new tracker as soon as possible.
unfortunately, all uploaded torrents are gone for good - they will be uploaded again, this time with much more strict rules, to keep the tracker clean and with maximum quality.
your user accounts also can't be transferred, so you will have to create a new account and we will give you your stats from the old tracker - sometimes we can find your stats in the old tracker, sometimes you have to remember your stats because they're lost. we're sorry for this.

if you have some experience with trackers, especially xbtit, and would like to help us, or if you just have some great ideas what to improve, let us know (write it here for example).

This is sad news :s but I'll be joining the new tracker as soon as it opens, good luck with building it!

I will help uploading DVD:s and stuff like that, but I hope you will give my old stats back as you said

I suppose no one will receive the past status back. they change the host so I think everything will start again and we'll register a new account

we will transfer your old status back. at some people we can transfer the old status, at others you have to tell us your past stats because we lost it. don't worry about this.

It really is a hidden blessing it happened in some ways.   We NEEDED new software for sure as the old one is not supported anymore and no more version upgrades and the owner bailed out. The old one was hard on the server not indexing properly in the db.  It did not function correctly with many bugs.   so it really was  loose cannon.

new software is so good for me so far!!

day two. we made a list of changes the standard system needs. we're going to go through them all, and check how they actually work. after we finish all this, the tracker will be theoretically ready to use - of course it will be empty and with default colour theme.

It's all good, but what will be a limit on users & how do you plan to announce a new tracker to users who do not fall to this forum?

the limit of users is yet unknown. maybe we will just set unlimited users, maybe we keep the limit somewhere under 3000 just like before. the problem is, that even if we allow 10000 users to come and join, they will have a hard time to keep reasonable ratio. most stuff is already uploaded (or will be reuploaded very quickly), and they will have a little chance to improve.

the tracker will have the same URL as before - the old tracker will stay for some days, so we can check and transfer everything useful, and also the shoutbox is working. later, the tracker will be replaced with the new one, but will be inaccessible for some time, until we setup everything correctly. anyway - if somebody checks tracker.gunsnroses.us, he will either see the old tracker with information that it's going to be shutdown, or the new one in maintenance mode and information about its eventual start, or the new tracker already running.
