Does anyone else get the impression that Axl is ...
« on: September 25, 2009, 08:29:23 AM »
Does anyone else get the impression that Axl is trying to re-build a band with players who don't have the capability to be successful without him?

If we're being honest here, every single replacement since 1990 has been a degradation to the musician that they have replaced. Judging by the majority of posts that I read on this forum, it seems to be the consensus that the 2002 lineup was far better than (what we know to be) the line-up that we have today. Josh Freese was/is a pretty in-demand studio drummer and he knew that he had better things to do with his career than to wait on Axl to dig up the courage to release an album. Bucket - while I personally don't think the dude had any business being in GNR, he is a pretty badass guitar player. He too knew that he did not need Axl Rose to be a successful. Finck - while I don't personally see anything special about his guitar playing, some did. And he had Trent and NIN to fall back on.

Look at our lineup today. Do any of you see Fortus, Ferrar, Pittman, Ashba, or Bumble walking out on Axl? I sure as hell don't. What better do they have to do? What more are they capable of? They're all 40 something average musicians who are barely recognizable (if at all) to the general public. If these guys were to leave it would likely be because Axl chose to fire them.

Do you guys think this is what Axl was aiming for? Surely it has to get old replacing guitar players and drummers every tour simply because they get sick and tired of wasting their lives doing nothing. But if Axl is able to keep a bunch of over the hill, nowhere else to go, average at best, studio musicians on the payroll, this is one concern that he will no longer have.

Does anybody else get the impression that this is what Axl is hoping for? Or is it just a coincidence that this has been the case thus far?

I think you're completely wrong here - ok, i'll give you the household names part... But as Bushka says, Ashba is ver successful, Fortus is an in demand session musician and live play (toured with Rhianna recently), Tommy was in THE FUCKIN' REPLACEMENTS!!! and Idont think Bumble was doing too badly before GnR came knocking...

Think Ashba respects Axl & wants to be in the band the guys a hell of talented player, producer and song writer.
If Ashba wasn't friends with Nikki Sixx don't think he would be as famous as he is now tho.

Fortus is a well known (at least inside the music business) as a famous versatile  session & touring musician, Bumbles a good solo musician, Pitmans helped & been on more records than anyone can remember.

So in a nut shell your wrong lol

Fist of all, I didn't mention any of these guys needing Axl so I'm not sure why you felt the need to mention them aside from trying to make your non-existant case look stronger.

Richard... sessionwork in demand.

No, he's not in demand. He's played with Rhianna ... who gives a shit? If he was "in demand" he wouldn't be wasting his life with the Nu'r Nu GNR. That's reality.

Ashba. songwriter, producer, sixx am

And? I would hardly say Six am is much of a credential. And him being a songwriter says very little considering there are plenty of people who think they are song writers.

Chris... session's and engeneering stuff. (did he do production as well once???)

Dude, there are plenty of people out there that do this sort of thing. I'd hardly consider that making him "vital". Besides, I thought his contributions to the album were pretty pointless and annoying.

Robin, NIN.
Ron.. Bumblefoot.

Two words ... Slash / Buckethead. Both of these guys pawned the two guys you just mentioned.

IMO I think as long as there is "pro tools" Axl doesn't need anyone  :?:!!
ultimately Who ever lasts in GnR these days is the guys who have the most "Flexible" schedules!!  If they have the time and money and patience to wait around for when the Messiah is ready they will probably  stick around

I think Axl gave up after he realized that Buckethead was gone for good. There really is no point in promoting any of these other guys as GNR members and he knows it.

I don't really care why Axl chose these guys. When there's a band which doesn't suck, the reasons don't matter to me

If they have the time and money and patience to wait around for when the Messiah is ready they will probably  stick around
