I'm challenging the idea that anyone should be sentenced without a fair impartial trial beforehand.  You can't condemn someone purely on the seriousness of the crimes of which they're accused.  If I said that you raped every child in Iceland, while flaying their mothers and throwing their flesh onto an open fire we shouldn't just decide 'a trial's too good for him, just shoot him, or lock him up and throw away the key.'  i know that's a ridiculous example, but there's no excuse for abandoning due process, is there?
no i agree, except in cases where they admit guilt. the terrorists being tried in new york admit guilt and are proud of it. so there is no need for a civilian trial. what gets to me though, is that its being held in new york. the location is my biggest issue. it wastes money and gives the men who admit they committed the crimes and are terrorists a bigger forum for their ideas.

Regardless, I'm sure you remember a couple of years ago they arrested an American who had been working in Thailand after he confessed to murdering JonBenet Ramsey (that kid from the 5 year olds beauty pageants and stuff), except then it turned out he didn't actually do it.  False confessions aren't always beaten out of people, from time to time they're made voluntarily.  And they're made more often than you'd probably imagine as well.

Now I don't think these guys have made false confessions, I'm sure the prosecution have sufficient evidence to prove that they were responsible if their lawyers claim that (or at least I sure as hell hope they do, but if they don't then equally I'd hope they were found not guilty)  Regardless of my position on their guilt, I still think they have to be tried like anyone else in order to make sure.

^ maybe. i just dont like that they are making such a spectacle out of it. no need to put it on tv like they say they might do, to have it in NYC, etc. Thats really what bothers me. I believe they should have a fair trial, but the fashion in which they are going about doing it is stupid.
