Riad?
« on: December 21, 2009, 09:49:24 AM »
So we've now had every song off Chinese Democracy in four shows, which is fantastic. But where the hell is Riad N' The Bedouins? Any theories of it being too challenging for Axl go straight out the window considering they played Prostitute, Catcher, etc.

Too challenging? No way! Havent you guys thought that it could maybe have something to do with the fact that Riad is the centre of a legal dispute regarding who owns sections of the songs. So long as the copyright and ownership of the song is disputed then the gunners cant play it live because after all from a legal point of view it might not be theirs to play, or at least portions of it.

I thought only the intro was violated.  Plus I thought you can play anything live regardless of copyright.

Not necessarily. Because its disputed Im betting they have been advised not to play it until the situation is resolved because if they play it live then this guy can claim that they have damaged his revenue and they could owe him more money if found that the clips belong to him.

after all, they could play it the same way as in 2001/2 - without the intro.

Ah no man. You really think that Axl and the guys spent the 7/8 years since then probably working and reworking that song just to go back to the 01/02 way of playing it? What a waste of time that would be. I am dying to hear Riad aswell, I guess as GNR fans Axl knows the one thing we have and exercise better than ANY other group on earth is fucking patience  so I guess we will need to wait once more. At least for a month anyway....

He's playing Catcher.. Prostitute.. This i love.. Shacklers... and you're complaining that they're not playing Rhiad? lol.. That's like him playing Estranged in 92' and complaining theyre not playing My World!... in all seriousness though... Rhiads not that bad.. it's def the weak one on the album.. and as far as copyrights go.. there shouldnt be a problem when playing live but you never know they may be trying to hide it a bit for the time being.

Its not being played due to legal actions.. they can play the entire song live  only if they are going to make profit out of it they have to settle an agreement with the author of the intro piece.

and it was played in 2002.

That's what I'm asking, too. The music is good, but lyrics and Axl's interpretation, c'mon...
