I'm sure we've all watched news reports, read articles etc about this disaster that fucked NOLA and the rest of Louisiana up the ass again... just when they were starting to get back up on their feet after Katrina. Was it 5, 000 barrels a day it's leaking? Again, the fishermen are the ones getting hit the hardest. Nevermind the fish.....

thoughts? it looks pretty fucking horrific. looking at the pictures bums me out; thinking about how many livelihoods and ecosystems will be fucked up makes me pretty fucked off.

The worst part is it might take several months before they can stop the leak. I don't even wanna think about the impact this has on fish, this is where they mate etc..disaster.

BP and the entire petroleum lobbying system in America should be completely hung out to dry for this.  This wouldn't have happened in the North Sea, and it wouldn't have happened out there if they hadn't spent the last few years lobbying against the need to put proper safety controls in place to prevent blow-outs like this happening because it would be 'too expensive and would slow the pace of drilling for new wells down too much'.

And it's strange, because in the North Sea, BP are probably the most anal company about safety and following regulations, but it seems like in Africa and the Gulf of Mexico, their attitude isn't much advanced beyond shoving some dynmite in the sea and then stick down a pipe to suck up what comes out

Happily they're not really insured for something like this either (I imagine a risk manager somewhere's getting their balls seriously booted for that right about now), so if I was the US government I'd be dragging them and Transocean and Haliburton (from what I've been told, it was Haliburton who actually fucked up with the concrete they were pouring) through the courts to make sure that it's them and not US taxes that pay for the clean-up.  That should stop them turning a profit for the next...well, ever again, probably.

need better regulations. the company that ran the rig should be sued off their asses. regulations on these things need to be  better enforced.

we're in the middle of an election so this is a secondary story, why is obama catching shit for this?

obama just finished endorsing off shore drilling and pushing forward with it, then a week later we have this spill in the gulf of mexico, then the feds didn't do anything or send help for it (except some lawyers to see who they could sue) for more than 10 days.

it's a pretty big story here, he is catching a lot of shit from both sides

One of the worst things that could have happened to the sea at this point from a biological viewpoint. It's not only that economy fascists & business-nazis are draining our planet for all its natural reserves, they also happily kill its eco-systems while doing so. It's good to see Obama will let them pay for all the shit they've stirred up and hang their asses out to dry -- if done properly.

Also: Dead animals; well everybody's heard about the bird... ba-ba-bird-bird-bird (and so on)
Signatures on forums are overrated. 90% are bullshit, 10% are related to Star Trek or Nyan Cat. This is one's bullshit.

It's also threatening the Sea-Turtles, they were just on their way to lay their eggs and nest :( I'm really sad about this.
