I use a stick, usually a small strip of willow or ash, wrapped in basil leaves and cloves.

what?! there is a huuuuge difference between the soft, which basically just cuddles with your teeth and the bacteria, whereas the medium hard toothbrushes really does the job, removes unwanted bacteria etc while not being too rough on the natural protecting shit that's on your teeth. The hard is well..you are basically raping your teeth.

I might add, I never had cavities, and I am a consistent user of the medium hard toothbrush. When I got to the dentist to waste some money, all I ever get is "ah, you're teeth are perfect, go home will you".

@ Nemo; I used to use this french natural toothpaste and brush...but considering the fact that I change mine monthly, it's too much of a hassle to get a hold of. Besides, not all appreciate the natural toothpaste with a taste of zesty herbs and what ever they put in it... I'm sure your teeth love the non chemical treatment. Basil leaves are known to give excellent fresh breath, my ancestors used it during WWII when there was a shortage on collegate.

I actually use a medium electric toothbrush and 2 different types of toothpaste.  Much as I'd love to try using leaves, I don't really begrudge the price of toothpaste; after all, it's got me through nearly 25 years without ever having needed any sort of dental work whatsoever.

Ah, well, to be fair I was also bullshitting you on my ancestors, I don't really know much about them, other than the fact that they fed my dad flour and water and pretended it was milk when he was a toddler.

I tried the electric tooth brush thing for a while, but then I read this research paper that claimed electric toothbrushes have to be used with a different technique than manual ones to have any superior effect. I tried learning this new ground breaking brushing technique, but my attempts failed. I have since returned to regular ones.

I got myself a new toothbrush, well, actually it was a gift from a good friend. It's electrical, well not the head, but it vibrates and it's double, so it brushes both sides of my teeth at the same time. It's gray, but it's awesome.
