Here's the excerpt:

If 1990s hard rock gets you off, this is a fine offering. But a better choice of collaborators might have served Slash better. One thing's for sure: This album is miles better than the floppy Chinese Democracy album which took Axl Rose 15 years to put out.
Well done, Slash.

Not to shank CD, but I agree. Just a matter of musical preference I guess.

Oh - I totally agree that Slash's album was better.
I couldn't bring myself to listen to 'Chinese' more than twice. I've listened to Slash's album almost daily since purchasing.
It'd be great if Axl could just let bygones be bygones and allow Slash to help him write a true Guns N Roses album.

Wooo... now here's a gentleman who knows his RnR.

Careful with those sentiments on here though dude. You might very well become a Public Enemy ;)

They tried, they cannot be in the same room together. They tried for like 5 years, it didnt happen. Each side says it was the others fault. Who knows really. It is tough to hear Slash's riffs and no Axl to complement it, but I am happy with the two releasing music individually.

I really like Slash's album, but its not those same sleazy, classic riffs from when he was in Guns N Rses- it was more mainstream.

For me we're still in the same position as we always knew- neither of them are better off without the other. I love Chinese Democracy but only Slash could have hiked that album upto a true Guns N Roses standard. I still wonder what Slash would have sounded like on Street of Dreams and This I Love.

Axl and Slash are both great, but I still think that as a team they pushed each-other onto a new level. Such a shame they cant sort things out, but hey sometimes these things happen.

When i started to listen to Slash's album i really thought it was better than CD, but just recently i started to listen to CD again... and really... its hard to tell.

I guess they're different albums, i like them both. I wish CD had more rockers but Scraped, Cd and Shacklers are awesome!

If the article said, "Chinese Democracy was miles better than Slash's album", would this still be a difficult decision?

Let's put it this way. It's true and I totally agree -- which is a strange thought since Chinese Democracy equals what I regard as the musical epitome of wonderful, complex music. I still listen to Chinese like once every two weeks, my bands music sounds very much like something that could go on Chinese.

Yet I do agree that this sort of songwriting and arrangement is sort of static, loopey and clinical.

If you're a singer and you're planning to write music, you obviously don't start with lyrics or singing parts. You kinda write a song and think about the lyrics later. In a "real" band, you're jamming and see what works, maybe doing the instrumental first and that's okay. But if you're doing it all by yourself and tell people what to play, it may feel a bit washed up (in your own ears knowing the project) in the end.

At least that's what I felt, when I had hired folks lay down their "guitar-interpretation" of something I've play on piano or acoustic... well, I guess it's the way it   c o u l d   be for Axl, that's my two cents.

Bottom line: Slash's album sounds more intuitive, natural and "flowing".

I like both but I prefer CD. I think is a more complex record
