Slash is a really lush sounding album. It sounds just like I excpected it would, cool and easy going, effortlessly good!

Only one small problem, Axl's not on it!  :tear:

I like both but I prefer CD. I think is a more complex record

It's not really complex at all, not if you mean chord progressions anyway. The piano parts are fairly simple, I don't play guitar though, so I can't tell how technical the solo's are compared to most other rock.

Can't see what's so complex about it though

I think Coma, Estranged and Locamotive are "complex", and on CD mabey The Blues and This I Love are, but the rest of the record is pretty straight forward!

To me, Coma is "complex"
Slash is more meat and potatoes, guitar, bass, drums, vocs, and with the basic format (verse, chorus riff, solo, etc). CD has layers of sounds and synths all going on, 3 and 4 guitars being heard at once, etc... Not to say either variety is better, some people even dislike CD for that reason. But what makes it more complex is how much is actually going on compared to Slash's album.

Ah yeah, right, yeah the synths make it complex

Thanks

Yes, more instruments, more layers, different patterns as far as song progression goes = more complex. Its not rocket science. Your basing its complexity off of piano chords, a whole different monster.

Agreed completely.  Broader range of instrumentation, more instrument tracks in the mix and by and large non-traditional pop song structures (verse, chorus, verse) make CD more complex.  Which is neither good nor bad, just different.

But most people don't want to get into the nuts n' bolts of those complex arrangements, which is sad.

Brian Wilson's SMiLE is a good example of "complex music", Pet sounds mabey even more so!

CD is not that complex, it's a pretty straight forward mix of rock, metal and electronica. There are samples, synths and lots of layers going on in a few tracks, but these don't make any of the arangments complex.

The exception, in my opinion is This I Love. The layout is simple and repetitive, but the piano, orchestrion and guitar solo all blend so beautifully! There's a lot going on, it works very well and I love it!

I feel that for the rest of CD,  these "layers of complexity" are just over indulgence, and the reason that many feel the record is overproduced and dated!

Brain is melting dont know if this post belongs in this section or the 'Was here' section, cant decide what to do.
Easy decision, in my opinion. There's really nothing to talk about right now. Leave it in the main section, where it might actually lead to a discussion.

Now, as for the topic itself, I can't tell if a couple of people here are joking or what, but it's absolutely no contest. Chinese Democracy is way better - an album I love. And the fact that it's obviously far more complex should be obvious to anybody with a pulse, and at least one working ear. As others have said, that doesn't make it better - but it's certainly a more complex record.

I'm no Slash hater, I was pretty excited to pick up his record, and it isn't bad. But I don't know, I expected a lot more than this. I really like the first 3 songs a lot. After that, I dig the Paradise City cover, Kid Rock's song is okay, 'Back From Cali' and 'Gotten' are pretty good songs. I just expected it to be a lot better than it is, overall.

Maybe it'll still grow on me, but my reaction right now is one of mild disappointment.

Meh, i can see where it will probably go off the rails. But it certainly doesn't have to.

Well for me, it's the first six tracks and the Iggy Pop song, since I'm a fan.
Other than that, it's just... different. Comparing "Slash" to "Chinese Democracy" is like comparing a facebook-flirt to anal sex...

I'm not linked in yet, is there something as facebook flirting? :D
