Rare video games
« on: August 10, 2010, 03:39:41 PM »
Got a feeling no-one's gonna post here...

Anyone hear of rare video games?, e.g. ICO, Rez, MGS3 Subsistence on ps2, Twin Snakes, Phantasy Star Online on GameCube, Shenmue on DreamCast.

Also, do you have any rare games?

I've heard of ICO and I have been wanting to play it for the longest time. Just never been able to get my hands on it. I loved Shadows Of The Colossus and The Last Guardian looks really good. (I wish I had a PS3 for The Last Guardian but oh well.)

Have you ever played ICO yourself? If I remember correctly ICO, SOTC, and The Last Guardian all take place in the same world. But at drastically different times of course. :)

I had a rare game, can't remember the name of it, but one of the times we moved it was stored in a warehouse and we lost all the stuff in there. That happened frequently. Had a few playing/trading cards that would be worth a couple grand today.

I'm waiting for the right price on ICO , too expensive on eBay. I passed up on a copy of SoTC for 25 Pounds the other day because the box was in a bad shape. I also have Alundra 2, Vagrant Story on PS1, both Kingdom Hearts on PS2, Disgaea 3 on PS3, and a ton of black label Final Fantasys, including the ultra rare PC FFVII.

I have SoTC, just the normal one, in decent shape. Got it a while back. I beat the first half of it, then lent it to my friend, who I beat the second half for her. I still need to finish my file though. xD

The Kingdom Hearts games were great. I wish I had some Final Fantasy games but never really got around to buying them. Played several of them though.

Also, there is a video game thread here. http://www.chinesedemocracy.com/forum/index.php/topic,45084.0.html

Ah, I used to have the hand held Mario's Cement Factory and DK as well, they were badass, DK in particular.

Also, Ico isn't a rare game, they made millions of copies of it, just it's a bit old now and half of them are probably gathering dust in peoples' houses.  I've got it in a cupboard somewhere back in the UK, along with about 400 old Amiga 500 games (Monkey Island or Speedball 2, anyone?  I've gotta get me an Amiga again).  Similarly if you look on ebay for ps1 versions of the Final Fantasy games 1-9 they tend to go for a lot of money despite selling more copies than there are grains of sand in the Sahara.

So there was a pretty cool little RPG for the Dreamcast about 10 years ago called Skies of Arcadia.  They ported it to the Gamecube once it came out, but for some reason they only seemed to make a couple of thousand copies of the Gamecube version.  It too is pretty rare, and well worth grabbing if you come across it, unfortunately the gamecube version tends to go for about £85/90 per copy on eBay (about $132/140)

One of my favourites was "Desert Bus," a "VeriSimulator" in which you drive a bus across the straight Nevada desert for eight hours in real-time. Then you drive it home. Also, the bus veers to the right, so you can't just leave the joypad propped up. The rumor was that if you won the game, you got one point.

Desert Bus!

oh...also.....If you stop the bus it will overheat and you will be towed back to the starting town in real time and the game is over.

This may be the most awesome game ever.

Anyone of a certain age (between about 23 and 28) who owned a Mega-Drive or Amiga will hopefully have quite fond memories of this...And I'd so get down to this in a club if they played it now
