Do you guys think the Mosque should be built near Groud Zero?

im from jersey, and I know many people who died in 9-11. That being said, I think that legally the government cannot stop them from building the mosque nor should they try. That would set a precedent which is wrong. However, I do believe after reading various comments in the New York papers from those who have planned the mosque, that they are doing it largely to get attention for themselves and get publicity. Which is also wrong and immoral. Basically I think we cant stop them and shouldnt, but that the people doing it are being insensitive.

As far as the example about a christian guy killing 5 people, it wasnt 5 people who died it was thousands, and I doubt that the guy would do it in the name of religion as the 9/11 terrorists did. I know that they are extremists and the whole religion cannot be judged based upon that, but the people building this mosque aren't exactly doing much to dis-associate themselves from the terrorists considering they appear to be doing this in part for the publicity.

On a serious note, I really don't see the real problem with the mosque. It's just an other thing blown out of proportion, aimed solely to divide people, and give a theme to political discussions. It's always easy to get people drawn into these kinds of debates with no real significance, filled with irrational emotions.

In the link above, the "Imam" (whatever the fuck that means) says that even moving the Mosque would cause backlash from the "Muslim world".

He says that he didn't think it would cause any stir up and if he had he would have suggested a different place.. BUT, there is stir up and now he's basically saying it can't be moved because it would piss our enemies off.

i agree and disagree with you. i agree that we cant just appease the muslim world, but i disagree with your idea that it is the entire muslim community that would be pissed. the backlash comes from radicals, not the entire population of the middle east. you sound pretty ignorant thinking the whole middle east is full of radicals, theres a large minority of radicals there sure, but its still a minority.
