How much do you know about Religion?

The original poster, or I, as I more commonly refer to myself, was talking about religion as essentially a structure.  A set of beliefs the followers of said religion are meant to accept and follow.  To conflate religion with faith is a bit weird really, perhaps rather than religion I should have specified religious doctrine or dogma, I thought the difference between private faith and organised religion was already well enough established in everyones' minds not to have to mention it.

and my point in doing the survey was to test their findings on another group and see whether those of us who don't prescribe to a religion (most of whom, I assume, also do not have faith) would outscore the believers.  It wasn't really an earth shatteringly important thread, I just thought it'd be interesting to see how people did.  Also I was feeling a bit cocky because I tried it myself and got all the questions right.

Which I've just realised isn't what you actually asked.

The point in finding out how much people know about an institution or power structure is an interest in seeing who does and does not know what the institution is actually doing.  If it's a hierarchical power structure, the odds are heavily stacked that there will be people out there feeling oppressed by it or wanting to overthrow it.  Obviously we know that's the case with religion, we see it all the time.  I would like to think that the people calling for it to be done away with actually understand how it works and why they want to see it removed from influence.

I think it might have been ever more interesting to have a breakdown in the results of those who declared themselves agnostic or atheist showing whether people with a strongly negative view of organised religions scored better or worse than others.

Its also important to know whether you'll be going to church on a sunday morning or friday evening. With christianity you've got your friday and saturday night for drinking, but have to endure a sermon and hangover. Judaism means getting it out of the way and only losing a bit of your friday night BUT you can't have a bacon roll to help with the hangover.

Apparently atheists are better at making these decisions, allowing us maximum drinking and recuperation time.

Muslims on the other hand must stay sober at all times to not forget their midnight prayers, or the other 4 prayers of the day. The assigned time slots for said prayers make it hard to give room for binge drinking and tequila shots, if you do happen to get wrecked you will have difficulties unfolding your prayer carpet and reciting the Qu'ran, never mind getting up and kneeling repeatedly.

Buddhism is the way to go, I have no issues with sitting in a yoga pose meditating when I'm stoned. You can even meditate laying down, or while running.

  And for the Catholics, if you don't go out on Saturday night you won't have anything to confess on Sunday..

i would say your average atheist is 10 times more annoying than your average muslim, catholic, or even jehovah's witness.  and that's saying a lot because they actively cold call and door knock to recruit

in what ways are they more annoying? There's also a queue for your response to a post you made about there being no left wing in Britain - or something to that effect - in another thread. I'll find it if you dont remember. Im sure you've just been busy or something. If i've missed the response - i think i was one of 3 or so who questioned your comment - then apologies in advance.

in my experience, atheists are a bit on the pompous and condescending side, but that's not even their most annoying trait

there was a protest here over the summer (i live in the state capitol of one of the most liberal states in the US) not far from my house where atheists were protesting/picketing a church saying they should teach darwinism in sunday school, it was pretty hilarious and the protesters were awesomely funny

I would say any group that is more into there belief than reality is extremely annoying. Overzealous Atheists are just as bad as any group. You cant let a few bad apples spoil the tree.

so you'd 'attack' that belief then? good, go get every christian (especially catholics) and tell them to quit their 'no one comes to the father' and ' Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus' spiel. Its tiresome being condemned to eternal suffering before birth.
