Where do you "Get Your News"?

Personally I try to read a handful of newspapers, while considering their political stand point and the outcome it has on their reporting/articles. Of course we all have our favorites, so I am curious to see what newspapers you all read, what news you watch on TV & how much credibility do you think your newspaper journalists and newsanchors really have. Are they telling the story as is, or are they telling the story as they see it?

BBC and Al Jazeera. Never read the newspapers. Occasionally i might glance over the Guardian but that's about it.

It's not "news" per se, but i spend a large portion of my time on Noam Chomsky's website. I think it's a brilliant source. I also "like" Al Jazeera and Noam on facebook, so i get articles/news etc... on my news feed, which is pretty cool.

I'd say that was 3 very credible sources. It's what doesnt get printed that seems to determine the credibility of a media outlet. Usually the serious stuff is either marginalised or simply not reported. In it's place is bullshit, trivial shit. al Jazeera, i believe, isnt "governed", so to speak, by OfCom either, and there have been times when they have reported things that the BBC haven't - as well as other mainstream media outlets. But the BBC is very good at what it does.

The quote from the article you mentioned is interesting indeed but certainly not exclusive to fashion mags. Advertisement is based solely on creating illusions (delusions). Next time you watch a car advert, see if it tells you anything about the car itself... bet it doesnt/ instead you'll get some attractive person, accompanied by another attractive person of the opposite sex, and lots of nice scenery...

Kind of strange for the washington post to mention it though, seeing as their article is surrounded b advertisement. Kinda shows that at frontline level, so journalists, politicians etc... are mostly unwittingly involved in feeding certain things in certain ways to the public - being steered away from important issues.

Very interesting, I have not been a frequent reader of Al Jazeera, but I will definitely add that to my "daily visit" list. I am taking Arabic, starting next semester, so hopefully in a years time I will be able to read some of the Arabic version.

And I fully agree, I have always wanted to be a correspondent, report from crisis ridden areas and write about politics, not who politicians are sleeping with.  I hate to see the front pages and what gets the most hits, and I realize that if I am "lucky enough" to get hired at a major newspaper, I won't be writing about things I find to be important.

As far as that quote, not really the most interesting part of the article, but I was making a point. We love the lies.

Personally I follow SoupSoup on Tumblr, smart guy, as for news I watch CNN(when my roommate is at practice/not watching MTV), Fox(I try..), online I read, NY Times, Aftenposten(Norwegian paper), Le Monde, Washington Post on occasion & The Wallst. Journal. Rarely read printer news.

prime example of the reason i read virtually no newspapers! I wouldn't touch CNN with a barge pole. Democracy Now! is a decent source. American too, i believe.

i don't have a tv, so most of my news comes via the interweb.  I try to swatch around The Guardian, The Independent, Liberation, Le Monde, the BBC and Al Jazeera.

Is pretty useful now and again, it's RSS feeds for the Associated Press.

I used to read the Times online, but since it went paywall I've given up on that, still read the paper hardcopy on a Sunday though.  i used to read Le Canard Enchaine as well while I was living in France, but it's not really an option here.

I also find both the London Review of Books and the Times Literary Supplement pretty decent news sources.  I get some stuff from National Geographic, I guess, and The Socialist Worker.

Overall, as much as I try to get a balance of 'left' and 'right' leaning ideologies in my news sources, I do tend to skew towards my own biases, purely because i find the racism and bigotry endemic in things like The Daily Mail and the Express unreadable.

If I buy a paper, then it's the Times. I used to go to their website, but you've gotta pay.

Telegraph, BBC, Guardian (simply to laugh at the fucking pond life), Reuters online. A variety of sources.

Cable news is shit (cnn, fox, msnbc), actually, all tv news is shit, lol. Cant really pinpoint where I get my news from, I guess yahoo, lol, but I dont really put a lot of stock into anything I see on tv or read on the internet. For the most part I watch espn and comedy central and tend to bury my head in the sand when it comes to having a bunch of phonies wearing makeup trying to tell me about local, national, or international current events.

I used to read The Independent, but now I get all my news from the BBC site and if I do pick up a paper it's The Guardian / The Observer.
