Obamacare ruled unconstitutional
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:55:53 PM »
RICHMOND, Va. – A federal judge in Virginia has declared the Obama administration's health care reform law unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson is the first judge to rule against the law, which has been upheld by two others in Virginia and Michigan.

Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli filed the lawsuit challenging the law's requirement that citizens buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014.

He argues the federal government doesn't have the constitutional authority to impose the requirement.

Other lawsuits are pending, including one filed by 20 states in a Florida court. Virginia is not part of that lawsuit.

The U.S. Justice Department and opponents of the health care law agree that the U.S. Supreme Court will have the final word.

I doubt the Supreme Court will rule it unconstitutional. Highly doubt it.

financially the US is no different from greece, italy, spain, etc etc  except we can print our way out of debt since we're the currency reserve of 60 pct of the world.  steps have been taken to move away from the dollar... accelerated devaluation... inflation... deindustrialization... global depression... austerity

you get the picture

except for the tiny little problem that what your saying there is not true. that minor, minor issue. if you cant see that for yourself then you wouldnt get it if it was shoved in your face. and since you live here it is shoved in your face, which is how i know im right.

To paraphrase Zizek, capitalism has been delaying its own essential crisis for quite some time now through artificial means of keeping things going (in much the same way you can fit a valve in someone's heart to keep the circulation going), but there's only so far multiple bail-outs and Bill Gates and co suddenly deciding that maybe some form of wealth redistribution is actually a good thing can get you.  Too much shit is hitting too many fans at the moment.  Governments suddenly find themselves fighting too many wars on too many fronts, it's hard to deal with a collapsing economy caving back in upon itself after you already shot it full of adrenaline while also fighting a couple of real wars overseas and dealing with the fallout of all your dirty secrets you've hidden from your population being made public, plus the knowledge that forthcoming is the publication of more dirty information on the inner secrets of the investment bank industry.  People are beginning to remember that a key part of the concept of democracy is that of consent, and less and less people seem to be consenting to what their governments are doing.  It hasn't reached a tipping point yet, but it is bubbling toward one.  In Europe we're, in all likelihood, a few months away from full scale civic unrest and mass rioting on the streets.  Even the Brits are beginning to remember how to protest.  I'd expect to see a government or two, from both 'sides' of the political spectrum brought down by the end of next summer.  If it spreads to the US, whether or not the 'collapse' Polar mentions occurs, or takes the form you think it would, there's a chance something pretty interesting could happen.

certainly I don't think you can just laugh at a claim like that and pretend it's gonna go away.

true dat when you say that the shit hit the fan and it's gonna be bad, especially when the dollar collapses.  all those fema camps that dude talked about are gonna get some work i'd guess

but when you say capitalism has been delaying it's own essential crisis, that's a logical fallacy.  govt intervention is the only thing that has ever hurt capitalism.

I cant imagine they were put in place solely for the collapse of the dollar.
