Guns N' Roses US Tour in Doubt for February
« on: January 22, 2011, 03:57:15 AM »
(hennemusic) Rick Landers of Guitar International recently sat down to chat with Guns N' Roses guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal. He let out this little bit of information:

Guitar International: Guns N' Roses is gonna be on the road in February, right? Ron: We're supposed to be and suddenly there's silence. I don't think it's gonna happen. Figuring February is weeks away and I've yet to see a single confirmed date. It's the kind of thing where you have a tour that's coming together, but it's so complicated at this level with managers and booking agents and different promoters and venues and itinerary and the production. The manager has to figure out how to get the gear from point A to point B all the time, without us going broke, and making sure all the crew is available.

With everything, all it takes is just one link in the chain to get weak and everything unravels. So, I don't know what the status is of this U.S. tour that I've been impatiently waiting for. more on this story

Nothing new but enough to make a tabloid sensation-like headline...
Then again, it's Guns' fault that they're not able to get a proper manager and/or other staff.

Well you said and/or.  but still the production managers and staff they have are out of the public eye but they got some of the best in the business there at every show working their ass off.  Bumble tried to touch on that a little bit and from seeing it... its big business at that whole end of it and it has to be able to flow perfect like he was saying or it won't work at all.  They have a lot of equipment to move, use, rent, buy, plan from point A to B to Z.

I'll also say that the scene for rock in USA is Dead compared to how Europeans appreciate it now.  Which is weird cuzz usually Europeans are more introvert in general. but Americans with music especially have been so oppressed with so much fucking bullshit from all angles that it just can't be rock and roll like it used to be outside major cities. Maybe its just not time yet.

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

Not excited for a US tour anymore, too much time will have passed by the time it gets organized and announced.  All I want from GN'R in 2011 is news about CD2, the wait for Chinese wasn't so bad because since 2001 we all knew we were waiting for an album called Chinese Democracy and we had live versions of songs to listen to. It's much worse waiting for an album you have no information about.

I might not meant the road crew & booking and the concert stuff in general as much as something more like promotion and all the troubles around. But we've been there already, nothing new.

Let's hope that in return the waiting will be shorter than the last time. I personally prefer to be surprised. And maybe they'll play live or post on Facebook some of the new material before releasing it.

I dont think anything seriously thought they would tour in Feb at this stage. The article is slightly misleading in that it suggests no tour at all - which Ron doesn't suggest, only that Feb isn't gonna happen... which is obvious.

Which film?
I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain

Yes, we understand you need gutars, amps, stage crew, and promoters, among other things, so does every other band in the world...
I sold my van to some guy down by the river...

True, but other bands hire experienced professionals to handle PR, book tours, arrange marketing/promotions, promote fan relations, and negotiate contracts - not housekeepers and their kids.
