Give me some good political books to read
« on: February 19, 2011, 10:44:19 PM »
I've been getting more and more interested in politics lately and have read Jesse "The Body" Ventura books "Don't Start The Revolution Without Me" and "American Conspiracies".  Ron Paul's End The Fed and The Revolution: A Manifesto look like interesting reads. Does anyone else have recommendations for books?

"Confessions of an economic hitman" by John Perkins.

The guy is an absolute twat, but it's still very interesting, and true.

"Al-Qaeda" by Jason Burke is meant to be another good 'un. I haven't read it, but friends say it's good.

just watch this video, it explains pretty much what i type in every post here.  it explains the fake right / left paradigm that exists today, why leftism is rly stupid and anti-freedom, and why my arguments will beat the euro pov every time.

haha. i did. it's painfully simplistic. Apart from the fact that the left and right wing are the wrong way round, it states clearly that in an anarchist society, everyone would be armed. This is accompanied by some nice cute pictures of civil unrest and rioting... come on... really?

seeing as you didnt respond to me i'll make a couple suggestions;

Thomas Ferguson: The Investment Theory of Politics (1995 i think!)
Anything by Chomsky, Illan Pappe, John Pilger, Mark Curtis, Naomi Klein etc... depends on the topic really.

Can you list and reference (as in Publisher, dates) some of the titles of their books?

Uncle Noam has over one hundred books so i'll do his latest and a couple others:

Chomsky, N. Hopes and Prospects. Haymarket Books, Chicago. 2010
Chomsky, N and Pappe, I. Gaza in Crisis; Reflections on Israel’s War Against the Palestinians. Haymarket Books, Chicago. 2010
Chomsky, N. Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance. Metropolitan Books, NY. 2003
Curtis, M. Secret Affairs, Britain's Collusion with Radical Islam. Serpent's Tail, London. 2010
Pilger, J. The New Rulers of the World. Verso Books. UK. 2002 (documentary of the same name - and others - can be found here: http://www.johnpilger.com/videos )
Klein, N. The Shock Doctrine; The Rise of disaster Capitalism. Knopf Canada, 2007

I can't be arsed to do anymore. Google.

That video was awful. Not just because i disagree with the ideology but because it has a painfully simplistic view of politics. A case can be made for that position, but that was woeful.

Who cares. Surely the title of the book is enough?

If you dont know who chomsky is, then finding out the date of publication and the publisher isnt gonna do much for you
