your stats just show that crime happens regardless. Arming everyone (or allowing them to carry weapons) won't help. It doesn't address the root of the problems and seems way more in danger of exacerbating them then reducing them. more emphasis on preventing crime etc... is clearly a much better way. Banning guns would be a pretty fine start.

The facts don't only show this.  Who is talking about arming everybody?

I think I already proved in other threads that banning guns makes the sales of guns skyrocket and also puts the guns in the wrong hands of people and also banning guns caused statistically significant higher gun crime.   Didn't you see the murder crimes in the stats?  that says nothing to you on the actual issue we are talking?
What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Yeah its too late to ban guns, that would basically be putting the guns in the hands of only cops and criminals, with the dirty cops having carte blanche on the black market.
I sold my van to some guy down by the river...

true

and this study actually shows significance of the above data better than I can.  I just found it and basically goes in the direction I am in but I didn't even account for $$$ saved.

Well i can understand some of you're arguments on why usa shouldn't ban guns.

But still, here in canada, even if the legislation in that effect may be seen as somewhat permissive on some points, I think that stats demonstrate well that banning guns for the common folks doesn't increase crimes.

My point was just saying, that a country which didn't based his constitution and culture around the right that everyone possess guns seems to have lower crime rates if they ban them (at least from the statistics i've based my argumentative on)

Not sure it will work well to prohibited it in a country who didn't banned it a first, but still saying that banning guns increase guns crimes isn't accurate in a lot of country banning them.
