France banned the Burqa/Niqab
« on: April 12, 2011, 03:52:42 PM »
So my good (embarresing) president has decided to ban the burqa/niqab from anywhere on public French Republic Soil.

Quote
The law comes at a moment of tension in France, where Sarkozy, at record low poll ratings before next year's presidential election, has been accused of stigmatising Muslims to win over the far-right vote and counter the rise of the Front National.

France's national consultative commission on human rights has reported a rise in attacks on mosques in 2010, warning that the political debate on niqabs, minarets and national identity had allowed a rise in "anti-Muslim feeling" on a certain "fringe" of French society.

CNN debate:

My understanding of Islam is...you have to cover hair, neck, chest etc, not actual face. At least my Muslim friends told me that. Even Saudi only requires hijab.

Actuellement you don't really HAVE to cover...it is unclear in the Qu'ran. There's something about protecting your body etc etc, but it doesn't clearly require anything.

Anyway, I think the niqab is too much, but I think it's pointless and this will lead to more prejudice and possibly further regulations on the hijab...which is already banned in french public schools.

I applaud France's ban on the Burqa. I believe that Britain should follow suit and demand women uncover their face.

In order to ensure integration into European culture, Muslim women will have to make sacrifices. If they do not wish to integrate into European culture, they should leave and allow another person the opportunity to do so.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

I applaud America's ban on Ebonics.  I believe the entire world should follow suit and demand black people stop talking slang.

In order to ensure integration into American culture, Black people will have to make sacrifices.  If they do not wish to integrate into American culture, they should leave and allow another person the opportunity to do so.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Fuck Nicolas Sarcozy. Anyway, I don't think this will help fight female oppression. Bullshit. You can't force ideas on people, no one will start respecting women because you want to control their garments. All you can do is require them to identify themselves when needed. Doesn't mean I like the niqab. I also don't like it when dudes wear wife beaters or when fat chicks were booty shorts. Muslims make up around 10% of France's population, and they should be citizens with eqaul fucking rights as us non turban wearing people.

Contre nous de la tyrannie? Sarcozy is pissing on our flag and everything it is supposed to stand for, and he is going into the Ivory coast. All the shit he is doing is to gain back the national front followers.

if i want to wear a duck costume all my days then i should be allowed to. if they want to look stupid then let them. people wearing the full veil may be doing it for a cultural rather than religious reason but thats all a moot point as religion isnt special and shouldnt be seen as justification for dispensation or reproach from the authority.

anyway, muslim women aside the real people getting shafted are the ninjas.
POOFFF!!! couldn't take it anymore, BP

I am just dumbfounded that in this day in age we still have these problems. What is the purpose of banning them? Security, womens rights or just plain intolerance. Either way it is stupid. Like 2na said, let them look like idiots.

Polar: No reply, eh? You've got fuck all, mate. I bet you don't even have a passport, and you get all your foreign experiences from watching Rambo and CNN.

I've lived as an immigrant, which I'm willing to bet none of you (except for Rocket Queen, I guess) have done. I lived in Moscow for 3 years, and they don't stand for any shit from visitors. We, in England, on the other hand, bend over backwards to accommodate anyone and everyone, and they walk all over us.

The pathetic middle-class in this country can't tolerate any discussion on the topic of integration / immigration because they can't understand the concept of racism. It's the same middle-class who have written policies on immigration, and sweep the issue under the carpet. They think that it's best to avoid the topic because it's going to cause social unrest. Ironically, avoidance of the issue causes as much if not even more social unrest as a result.

bending over backwards is one thing, but to say someone can't wear what they like is plainly ridiculous.
