civvy street can be very tough. working in museums there are lots of ex-servicemen who were parachuted, scuse the pun, into jobs until the early nineties. nowadays the support structures are very flimsy. I'd imagine the 'well trained killers' are better looked after (i work with someone who is ex-sas and he's got opinions on several public figures who've been helped into their positions). it's the average squaddie who has to handle some very difficult stuff with very little support who're probably in a worse position.

POOFFF!!! couldn't take it anymore, BP

Usually they end up getting picked up by a statey in Oregon and end up bringing the war to a local police department.

An important question is what Britain and America do with all of their well-trained killers when operations cease. Can you just release them back into society? For some, there's no turning back and the things they've seen and done will stay with them forever.
An even more important question is are operations ever gonna cease? The enemy this time around could be anyone, anywhere...

Agreed. The truly dangerous ones will probably be on a high street near you and I soon. I'd imagine the marines, sas and paras are watched fairly closely. They again, there's always the risk of one just doing a Begbie and going fucking nuts one day.

We're in it until the end. Whenever that may be. Past the point of no return. Quit now and guarantee failure, carry on and run a small chance of succeeding.

The Soviets knew when enough was enough, but it fucking destroyed their society. I don't think our leaders are clever enough to do the same before it's too late.

Yes, very convenient how our leaders have created an enemy that will never go away. The war machine has to keep spinning or we all die...

I don't know if there's any sort of conspiracy in all of this. To suggest a conspiracy implies a situation has been engineered in which those who created it benefit. The fact is, my country, Britain, has been at war for about 10 years. It's been incredibly expensive in terms of pounds spent and lives lost. The war effort has crippled our economy simply because we didn't anticipate such resistance.

I'm sure a conspiracy theory actually helps maintain the idea that there is control over the situation. There isn't.... This is completely out of control because our leaders rushed into poor decisions.

The Taliban are the hardest of the hard. Britain and America trained these guys in the 1980's to fight Soviets. Now, they've refined those skills and are using them against us. This war is nowhere near over, and everyday which it goes on is a victory for the Taliban.
