CD.com sports thread
« on: July 01, 2011, 07:40:06 PM »
Okay. So things have become very political recently. Why don't we all chill out and celebrate the best of sports and the world's finest athletes. Any sport is welcome.

First issue: Klitschko or Haye?

My money is on the big Ukrainian in the fifth. The ref is going to want to give it to him quick sharp. I'd love to see a British heavy-weight champion carry the main belts, but I think Klitschko's reach and steely determination is going to see him through (plus the help of the ref).

By the way, the best athletes ever are Cung Lee, Michael Johnson, Mike Tyson, Sir Steve Redgrave, Jonah Lomu Michael Phelps, Pele, Zidane, Federer, and Matthew Le Tissier.

Edit: My new favourite sport is hurling. It's like lacrosse, but without the padding. There's a big club near me in London and those guys have all the attributes of a great athlete. Very impressive.

as you say, the ref is gonna play a big role in determining the winner. But i enjoy haye's whole act and think he'll put klitschko on his arse in the eighth, so long as the ref is strong from the start.

No Ali in an all time greats list? He'd of beat Tyson before they got in ring i reckon. I hope Haye wins. Maybe a close win on the judges score card.

Haye should go back down to cruiserweight. He was totally out-boxed at heavy-weight. I can't see a rematch happening, but I can't see Haye retiring just yet.

Djokovic is the new Wimbledon champion. Britain won't have a grand-slam winner any time soon. Murray just hasn't got the skills or the bottle.

Well, when you wear an "anyone but England" t-shirt, what did you expect.

The man has the charisma of a brick.

he never wore an anyone but england t-shirt. he was asked 6 times by the same journalist who wanted to win the world cup and eventually gave the desired response as a joke.

evidently, its not enough that you'll buy the media line on murray you've got to resort to making stuff up.

Fair enough. Doesn't mean he's not a twat, though. The English public don't need the media to tell us what we already know: The man's got better than average skills as a tennis player, but not enough to win anything worthwhile. He's the best that "Britain" have got. As soon as someone better comes along he'll be considered "Scottish". Sad but true.

I can't wait for him to cash in on adverts: My guess is he'll be in an advert for something really dull, like potatoes.

Here's one for you:

What will happen when Andy Murray gets his hands on the Wimbledon trophy?

The police will arrest him for robbery!! Ba-doom!!

Lord knows we English aren't a particularly talented bunch when it comes to sport either. Please don't think this is some kind of south-of-the-border attack on Scottish pride. We're equally as shit at most of the same things.

Fair's fair. I always thought he wore a t-shirt with the slogan on it. If he didn't, I take that bit back. I'm not too proud to swallow my words if they're wrong.

very gracious of you. you must admit, there's a big difference between wearing a shirt and answering a question which someone has asked you half a dozen times looking for a specific response.

Seems the quote has been morphed with a supposed wearing of a Paraguayian t-shirt when England played them in the 2006 World Cup. There is a big difference.

Thanks for the sarcasm. Very good of you!
