Plan my trip to the UK
« on: October 04, 2011, 11:29:45 AM »
Hello friends;

As some of you may or may not have seen, I'm going to be leaving the good ole US of A for the first time this December and going to England! I'm going with one of my friends from school, who, although American, has lived in England for 5ish years, and I'll be staying with his parents. Right now, it looks like I'll be there from Dec 10-Dec 22, staying in Denham.

So, knowing that some of you are from the area, I humbly come to you asking for any and all applicable advice as you see fit. What should I do, who should I meet, where should I go, etc etc. Fill my empty coffers with your wealth of knowledge.  :unibrow:

Thanks!

Josh

Where in the holy hell is Denham?
I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain

Buckinghamshire? If that makes any sense (again, this is all new to me, so bear with me if I'm not descriptive enough)

Yep, that's where Buckingham Palace was built before being transported down to London in 1883, where it still stands today. Your friends family will be pretty impressed if you tell them that. It's important you get off to a good start with them by sharing local history facts.

the "where it still stands today" line will be the part that most impresses them I think.

Its cold, and Buckingham Palace used to be where I'm staying.

Thanks all!

Firstly,

The United Kingdom is nothing like the United States, the only thing we have in common is Mcdonalds and everybody obsesses about familly guy. In the UK you must be vigilant at all times, i would highly suggest you watch the film 'Green Street', it is an accurate portrayal of what happens when a Friendly American hobbit (Elijah Woods) visits london and gets involved with local sports. In England, every saturday we partisipate in a spot of entertainment known as 'Morris Dancing', as an aspiring American tourist to England, i highly suggest you try this entertainment out. After a session of Morris Dancing you should head to a local pub and try a pint of fine Real Ale or perhaps a strong brandy of sorts. At the moment Buggery is rife so you will have to cover up at all times! In england, if you talk with a strong 'BBC' or should we say posh voice you will succeed in life and make lots of money and maybe a hot celebrity wife. During the Winter months it is unpolite not to wear a scarf in public. Your form of dress must consist of a smart overcoat of regency style. A fine tweed scarf and a regular pinstripe suit underneath. You will also be required to wear either a bowler hat or a flat cap in parts of England. If you enter posh parts of England you must wear a top hat at ALL times. The Royal Familly is a highly respected british icon and supreme ruller of the British Empire, at any time if you decide to mock the royal familly or her associates you could well face certain death. Do not go to the north of England. For Seaside visits perhaps a trip to 'Western Super-Mare' or perhaps the Cornish coast. In England it is illegal not to eat a 'Full English' on a Saturday morning and a Sunday Roast Dinner/lunch. Do not Visit Scottland unless you have poor grammer and have issues with the old bottle. A visit to Great Britain or any of her colonies is highly reccomended, the Holy Imperial Empire welcomes you.

Enjoy!
