Apple Inc co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, counted among the greatest American CEOs of his generation, has died at the age of 56, after a years-long and highly public battle with cancer and other health issues.

"We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today," Apple's board of directors said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Steve's brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve."

The Silicon Valley icon who gave the world the iPod and the iPhone resigned as CEO of the world's largest technology corporation in August, handing the reins to current chief executive Tim Cook.

Jobs, who fought a rare form of pancreatic cancer, was deemed the heart and soul of a company that rivals Exxon Mobil as the most valuable in America.

There is much success with technical advances to recognize during my learning and years in the IT sector.  Also in the last couple of weeks, I rebuilt CD Dot Com on an Apple which gave me a much deeper respect for this machine/os !!   With  that said  RIP.

I think that he was obviously an incredible driving force behind technology/technology innovation, and I'm sure Apple will continue to thrive, because I'm sure he has had a hand in products years and years down the pipeline. Realistically, I'm curious to see what direction Apple goes after those ideas run out; without his genius behind them, can they continue to hold the same line that people expect? That remains to be seen

My whole life has changed now that Steve Jobs has died. i have had an emotional and physical breakdown and have taken to eating high-calorie products. Steve Jobs was the best person in the world ever and obviously deserves my respect and good-will. I will now dedicate my life to Steve Jobs and his Memory because he is simply the best, better than all the rest. Lets all remember Steve Jobs for the greatness that he brought to each and every one of our lifes, lets remember when he emotional touched us inappropriatly with his Ipods and Iphones and Imacs and Pixar. I have been utterly molested by Steven Jobs' Apple products and will continue to use them in an emotional and unrully way to improve and preserve my life like a jar of pickles in the sea on it's way to the New World, with utter, utter excitement, sorry i meant excrietement.
