« on: October 21, 2011, 02:08:57 AM »
The Lou Reed and Metallica collaborative album Lulu is now streaming in its entirety at their homepage www.loureedmetallica.com/listen-to-lulu.php

Jesus Tits it's hard work being a Metallica fan sometimes. Hard fucking work.

Judge for yourselves if anyone's remotely interested anymore.

What are your current thoughts about Kurt Cobain?

Axl: I said I'm going on ChiDem now and he said whatever & walked away other than that I've been busy.

if this was LouJovi  <<<  my typing would have stopped as I would have /wrists

I really didn't think Metallica was capable of and enjoying at the same time playing in such fashion.   Shook my philosophies a bit

I need to know more how it was recorded and if instrument effects are recorded live

Sean, yours is probably the only favourable response I have seen while reading comments about this album on various metal boards. I am still undecided if I can find a couple of good tracks, but kudos to you for giving it a listen. That's more than any of my mates are going to do.

One of my favourite comments from a fan was 'I'd rather watch my parents fuck than listen to Lulu again'!

most likely that is due to 'metal boards'.  I don't ever visit 'metal' forums or label music often. It annoys (unless I have drinks on) me when people get into that focused grouping of \M/ this and \M/ that.  I like Rock..  from Classic to Metal and I like music gear and into what makes sound.  I enjoy Psychedelic jam bands too (not all :p)

Anyway I listened to the whole thing on my laptop.  Next I will on the studio monitors.   Towards the end M sounded a little repetitive so I was then thinking maybe they reached that plateau. but then it got better again.... probably cuzz lou got them back the F off and feel the music.

So there is 10 songs there... on that site.  How many will be released?  I thought I read a double album?

That's it. The whole album. They're some long-ass songs on there!

I agree about what you say with the metal community. They can be extremely closed minded to anything deemed non-metal. So quick to yell 'sell out' that a band has barely time to form before they're sold out. A constant echo of 'they were shit after the first ep'. Or you're only as cool as the number of obscure Scandanavian bands you have in your pirated collection.

Listened and played guitar to on the studio monitors.

1. There is nothing wrong with long songs...  I can even stand 20 minute jams
2. ok there is nothing complex going on here as far as progression. I think the first few songs were all E lol. Then a song in A. Then I think C and G.  back To A E or something like this lol.
3. There is nothing wrong with improvisational music.
4. I think Lou's organic sounds carried them.... I am guessing he did all the synth sounds?
5. I agree when Metallica says they are a 'better band for doing it' ....
6. I like that its a concept album based on those German plays and origins and sources of thought it came from is a big plus
7. I thought Lars did a pretty good job
8. James did kool backup vocals
9. All in all its a jam session with raw instruments and with good sounding synth and improvisational and there is nothing wrong with that.  Is it genius? nah....   kool? yes   inspirational? sure    Smart?  sure

Ok I've listened...  :)

When I heard The View on it's own a while ago I didn't like it, but I didn't hate the album and I enjoyed the song more in the context of the whole album.

It found it quite pleasant in a 'play in the background whilst working' kind of way... and some of the lyrics are pretty interesting.  Some I found stupid. Agreed with what Sean said about the music.

I'll definately give it a couple more listens, but I don't think I'd bother getting it.

As a die-hard Metallica fan of over 20 years I was disgusted with this project.
