Chronic City by Jonathan Lethem. Anyone else read anything by this guy? Pretty surreal book.

I highly recommend it, it's full of those "tips" that even though wont solve ALL of your problems provide you with the clues about how to tackle them and deal with unavoidable daily shit.

Really? Tell us more!

Since you asked! I was an extra at the jousting tournament where the Mountain goes all Godfather. I thought that maybe I'd get a quick glimpse of myself but I actually got onscreen and clearly visible 13 times (not that I'm counting, you understand) over epeisodes four and five. They filmed it over four days at the picturesque Shane's Castle which is just outside Antrim in Northern Ireland and just happens to be where I spent my formative years. The first day was brutally cold and almost all of the extras said that they'd not come back unless the weather got better as we were all in very thin costumes. Thankfully the sun came out for the next three days and it really was the easiest money I ever "earnt" as most of the time involved sitting by the river getting high and tanned awaiting the Director's call.

Sean Bean looks chubby in the tv show but in real life he was in great shape. He really does love a smoke.
Conan Stevens aka The Mountain really is massive, a legit 7ft tall. He'd have 3 lunches brought to him on set.
The real horses were loathe to go near the dummy dead horse and fake blood.
One of the extras had learning difficulties and no inner monologue so he would blurt out things even after the Director called action. We'd all be deathly silent as the cameras rolled and then we'd hear him roar "That horse just done a big shite" and "Look at its cock. IT'S MASSIVE!"
I'd eat my dinner out of Lena Headey's  knickers. Cersei Lannister is much, much hotter in person, though she could do with a burger.

:O That's awesome! Wow, figures about The Mountain's size! The guy who plays Sandor Clegane is already huge and The Mountain is even bigger than him.

Lewis Carroll's "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"... some battered hardcover edition from the 50's.
I just like that book and the symbolisms of the story :D

Usually, I read history, or poli-sci, but of late, I've read a few novels.  Of those, Karin Slaughter stands out as a good thrill cop book.

Secret Affairs: Britain's Collusion with Radical Islam by Mark Curtis. A great insight into British foreign policy drawing mainly on declassified government files. Thoroughly researched and written strictly to the point, no thrills.

Currently about half way through 'How I escaped my certain fate; The Life and Deaths of a Stand-up Comedian' by my favourite stand-up, Stewart Lee. I purchased this book at his merch stand after seeing him in Plymouth on bank holiday monday. The show was superb, he signed my book, was kind enough to allow me to have a photo and the book itself is a great read. It's a break-down, essentially, of his shows - transcipted, with accompanying notes underneath. Just finished the breakdown of '90's Comedian', which happens to be my favourite piece of stand up i've ever seen.
