Sice I got a fireball up in my ass (cause of school), I'm kinda ambivalent now. Been reading at one time:
F. Kafka - Process
Lisa Rogak - Stephen King
Clive Barker - Damnation Game
Petronius - Satyricon
and others...

i did some holiday reading. managed to polish off a few books lounging by the pool, including,

lost christianities - prof. ehrman. Reasonably weighting exposition of 'heresy' and proto-orthodoxy in the first few centuries of christianity. I loved it, but i'm a dreadful geek.
hound of the baskervilles - just re-read it as i ran out of material and stole it off the mrs.
hard boiled wonderland... - murakami. Brilliant. Very funny and odd.
the outsider - albert camus. Also brilliant. Even why i dont get what camus is on about i loved riding along with what he's saying. I started reading the myth of sisyphus, but it genuinely hurt my head trying to read it on the beach. Suicide and sangria dont mix.

i'm sure there was another book, but i just cant remember it.

London Fields by martin amis. It was a treat. Some of the best characters you'll find anywhere. Not as funny as Money, but i enjoyed it getting darker as it went on.

Still, as almost 500 pages i'd've quit pretty early if it wasnt very good.

kafka on the shore by murakami. fine. not his best.

'my shit life so far' by frankie boyle. pish. utterly lacking in any detail about his life. there was probably about twenty pages about his life and the rest was stand-up gags. whether this is due to a desire to maintain privacy or through low self-esteem i'm not sure, but it made it a very unsatisfying read. still, i've got stephen fry's memoir's to read next which will be better.

finished stephen fry's "the fry chronicles" earlier today. i'm left a little non-plussed. it was well written, witty and full of charming anecdotes and a degree of introspection that counterbalanced the unmitigated success that the narrator takes us through. part of writing an autobiography is that your restricted by truth and, despite Fry's own proclaimed love of lying, the period in question was hugely fruitfu which means that as a story its gushing has an unappealing structure (it reminded me of the Fast Show sketch were the guy lists of a series of ridiculously brilliant strokes of fortune who ended the monologue by saying, "which was nice"). Luckily fry counterbalances this by calling himself a bastard throughout. Although that gets a bit tiring.

I think the reason the book dissapointed is because 'moab is my washpot' was infinitely more enjoyable. whilst an outsider at school, fry was fighting against the same thing everyone goes throguh regardless of class. Beyond cambridge his great battle was not against the prejudice of his sexuality but the fact that he is very much establishment and defensive tone he employs often grates.

still, i love stephen and it was awfy funny.

Is nobody else reading?

Brief history of time. Lots of fun, it sort of lost me for the last couple of chapters though. Too mental. I've read a few pop physics books, so most of it was just taking it a step farther. It did take me longer to read than i'd imagined though mainly due to the fact that i kept slipping into the computer voice in homage. well, not homage, ridicule really.
