One of the contributing factors in the absence of many use your illusion songs were due to the fact that Axl wanted it to sound like it was the original band, and that he wanted perfection, and many of the songs that were being rehearsed were from Appetite, so he kept it with that. And he also wanted to stay with what most people consider one of the best hard rock albums of all time, so more would recognize the sound.
