those were the big 5--metallica,megadeth,anthrax,slayer,testament

with overkill,exodus,sepultura coming next

but all of those bands hit a peak early and have been downhill ever since

testament going downhill? don't think so. formation is the best album they have put out period.

Nirvana.  If Kurt hadn't killed himself, they probably would've gone downhill.

OZZY OSBOURNE Is Among 'Worst Singers Of All Time' - Mar. 4,
2007

World Entertainment News Network reports that Ozzy Osbourne,
Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion have been branded the "worst singers of all
time."

The poll, carried out by British music magazine Q, lauds Elvis
Presley as "the greatest voice of all time", but singles out popular stars
such as Dion and Carey for their vocal inability.

The judging panel says, "(Mariah Carey) may have an 100-octave
range and the ability to sing so loudly that birds' nests fall from tress,
but that doesn't make it right.

"(Celine Dion) grinds out every note as if bearing some grudge
against the very notion of economy." But the magazine's most scathing
remarks are reserved for former BLACK SABBATH frontman Osbourne,
who "now
sings like he speaks - this may be a cause for sympathy but not for buying
his albums."

Yoko Ono, LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst and "any death metal
singer" were also among those criticized for their singing.

ok dead serious they think that mariah and dion are bad singers??????????????????????? i don't listen to that kinda thing but that couldn't be much more wrong that lets down the entire article

and most death metal vocalists are pretty good at singing in the main stream sense. Hating on harsh vocals is a point of view it has no bearing on ability

ide also like to see them take away black sabbath and see where the music scene would be for rock and metal, it would be hugely different if it even still existed saying sabbath are overrated is like saying (if there was one) god is overrated

Come on! you know better than that. I don't want to start arguing with no one here. I know most of the people here like Black Sabbath. I just stated the obvious. Ozzy is a bad singer. That doesn't mean he isn't a good artist. That does not mean that most of his work was just innovating and brought a new face to rock history. Anyways, may point is Ozzy is a hell of a bad SINGER. That's why I think at certain way Black Sabbath was/is overrated. It is just my opinion. If you don't like the way I think... Why don't you try making me change my mind? If you can

actually i hate Black Sabbath. His voice fits the doom metal style sabbath played so context providing he is actually pretty talented

liking a voice is essentially what separates a good singer from a shit one. We could go into octaves and styles if you want to

You don't need to know much 'bout music to know that Ozzy can't sing. Let's just leave it that way.

again we come back to context

i could say robert plant is shit, or lennon, dylan, hetfield, mustaine, araya, wieland etc etc

my point is that each band mentioned including sabbath have had a vocalist that suits them and makes them who they are. Talent doesn't fall into it some times heres an example of what i mean

i love steve vai=talented and some iconic good listening

i hate yngwie malmsteen=talented as fuck but i just don't like the sound of it

i like slash=not amazingly talented but plays music that i like

i hate cobain=not at all talented and plays music i hate but essential to the modern rock and metal scene

ozzy is the cobain of the metal world he may be shit and make shit music but the fact he inspired such a musical evolution means that they cannot be called overrated

I totally understand your point. And I think you are right. But we all know that Ozzy can't sing.
